NE1's DC worse on Prilosec than Zantac?

We had to switch DS to compounded Prilosec last week because Zantac "wasn't cutting it". He seems much worse off of the Zantac. The specialist said that the Prilosec would work immediately. He had an adverse reaction to Prevacid so this is our last resort.

Anyone experience this?

DS needed to be on both zantac and prilosec to get any relief.  When he was on just one he was in pain.

I asked about that, specifically. She said no. Do you give them 12 hours apart?

He gets zantac at 6 AM, prilosec at 8 AM, zantac at 2 PM, prilosec at 8 PM and zantac at 10 PM.  When we tried the prilosec alone we ended up having to take him to the ER because he screamed in pain.  According to his GI the two medications work differently.  Zantac neutralizes the acid that the stomach produces and the prilosec keeps the stomach from producing it.  They think in DS's case the prilosec wasn't stopping all of the acid production so what was being produced was burning when it came up.  Does your DC see a GI ?  If not I would recommend seeing one.

Wow! Poor baby! Yes, DS sees both a GI and an ENT at Hasbro in Providence.

    I'm calling the GI tomorrow.

DS was worse on Prevacid and Prilosec. We kept him on zantac and upped the dose (we also split it so he took it 3x per day) because apparently kids metabolize medicine 3x faster than adults. That did the trick for us and he was on it until we weaned him a little after 2
