Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Stroller question: Bugaboo Bee vs Maclaren

We'd like to replace our bulky stroller with a smaller and more lightweight one (and one that moves easier too).  I was leaning towards the Bee but recently read that older babies/children may not fit well.

 Any suggestions?

 Thanks!

Re: Stroller question: Bugaboo Bee vs Maclaren

  • I don't know anything about the Bugaboo, but I have a Maclaren Quest for DD and I love it. It is very lightweight and easy to fold/unfold and use. I bought it as a second stroller (one per car) and now I grumble when I have to use the Graco one we have in DH's car because it is so bulky.

  • I have an Uppa Baby Vista and a Maclaren techno XLR. The Vista is similar to Bugaboo. It handles really well but I wouldn't say its lightweight even though it weighs maybe only a pound or so more than Bugaboo. The Maclaren is awesome however. Its light, folds easily and very roomy. Plus its way cheaper. I'd recommend the Maclaren. Just make sure to get one that reclines all the way.

  • Personally I would not drop the money in a bugaboo unless you lived in a city where you need the shocks and rubber wheels instead of plastic wheels.  if you're in the 'burbs and use it mostly for going to the grocery store, mall, etc. I would just get the McClaren.  If you live in a city and use it 24-7 I would go for the Bugaboo.  I'm not sure about the bee (we have the frog) so I can't give many opinions on that.  We have the Dutch version of the McClaren also and use it when we know we'll be in tight spaces.  BUT the frog is money for the cold weather and longer times the baby will spend in the stroller.

    Wow I was rambling there.

  • I have both a Cameleon and a Maclaren Quest.  I use the Bug for everyday/around town and the Maclaren for travel.  Emerson is in 95th percentile for weight and 99th percentile for length and still has TONS of room in the Bug.  Honestly, much more than the umbrella stroller.

The only draw back (and ONLY reason I got the Maclaren) is that the Bug is really hard to travel with.   You have to take the wheels off of it in order to put it in the travel bag for air travel.

Both are great but, the Bug does have more room than the Maclaren.

  • I echo all the Maclaren praise. I have the Triumph and DD (and I) love it. It has a really smooth ride and is super lightweight. I can easy carry it with DD in it (although she is getting heavier!).

Antecodote re: ease of maclaren vs. bugaboo - I was meeting a friend at the mall and we parked next to each other. We got out at the same time to get DCs in strollers and it took her about 10 min longer than me!

  • My son is 2 yrs old. We have a Bugaboo Cameleon and I can vouch for their quality. I LOVE IT. I'm sure the Bee would be fantastic. I've also heard the same thing about taller kids not fitting well in it, but I believe the canopy is also adjustable and you can always use it without the canopy cause once the kid outgrows the back of the seat he/she is most likely old enough that a canopy isn't exactly necessary anymore unless it's like pouring rain out or something. And FYI, I am not an urban mom. I am a rural mom, we live in the country, and I still love my Bugaboo. It's fantastic on sand and even small boulders, it's light, functional, and super comfortable my son just loves riding in it!!

I tried out some Maclaren strollers in the store and was not a fan. The latches were hard to unclasp and the seats were SO short. No way could a toddler be comfortable in there very long. My kid is average size and I could not see him using one of those strollers even at a younger age. They did not look comfortable.
