Speaking of first words...

When do "words" actually become...words with meaning. DS says dada and hi but do they actually mean anything? I was thinking "hi" was just a fluke, a sound he was making, but now he is saying it at appropriate times. When DH or I walk into the room, first thing in the morning when I go to his crib, when the dog gives him a kiss or when we open the car door get him out of his carseat. He doesn't babble it, it seems as if he is clearly saying it. He has been "saying" dada for a month or so but again, he says it now when DH comes in the room or if they're playing. From what I've read, its supposed to be closer to a year. Is all of this merely a coincidence?

When do you actually consider "words" to be their first words?

  • I was wondering the same thing!  DS says "mamamamama" when he's upset and wants to be held/nursed but I have a hard time believing he's actually meaning Mama.  Would be cool if he does though!!  Sounds like your DS knows what he's talking about! :)
