Interested in thoughts on Leo vs. Liam (given name, not as a nickname). Siblings are twin girls Stella & Elise. Last name is three syllables, has an "L" in the first syllable, and "a" in the middle and ends with "tis". Leo looks and sounds a little bit better with the middle names we have chosen (which both have "o" in them), but I feel like Liam goes better with our last name. I'm not as concerned with popularity of the names where we live. We do want the style and sophistication of the name to be in line with the twins. Also important that the name grow well with the child. Appreciate your thoughts!

I know like twelve little Liams under the age of 4. I'd definitely go with Leo. Another name to consider - Ian. I know a set of twins named Stella and Ian and have always thought they flowed well together.
Just want to chime in to say Leo is a very old Latin name in and off itself, it isn't just a nickname. In fact the other lion-like names (Leon, Leonard, Leonardo etc) derived from it, not vice versa. I say this as someone who has a little boy named Leo and get tired of people asking if it's short for anything. I love Liam too but we ultimately chose Leo because Liam is currently number 2 in the country. He would be one of about 8 Liams in his class, just like the Chris's in our generation. So, in my very biased opinion, Leo.

I think Liam stands alone better, although they both feel like nicknames to me. I don't think popularity is a good reason to ditch a named if you genuinely prefer it.
Leo and Liam are both great names! Each sounds like it'll go with your last name well. I'll also mention that they are both full complete names; I wouldn't change either of them to another name, as they aren't nicknames. My vote goes to Liam b/c it has popped up in my family over the generations and I have a personal soft spot for it.
