Hello ladies, my name is Melissa and I found out this week I'm pregnant with our first baby (currently 4+6, EDD 12/20). We lost our first little Nugget in September 2013 at only 9+2 (but measuring 6 with no heartbeat). It was a huge loss and shock to both DH and I, and really affected not only our mentality about trying again, but even our marriage. We both blamed ourselves, even though there is truly nothing we could have done differently to keep LO growing.
We knew we wanted to try again, preferably later this summer, so this PgAL has been a bit of a surprise. We're both hesitant to get excited, but my husband much more so than I am - he never truly opened up about how much the miscarriage affected him, but it's clear it hit him extremely hard. However, we are a family of faith and we're trying to trust God in all of this and that He's going to keep our little bear baby around the full term this time. However, I can't help but get a little excited and think about having a Christmas baby
So that's my PgAL story. I'm about to be 28, a full-time grad student getting my master's in curriculum and teaching (I'm a high school English teacher), and I love to bake, knit, and have random dance parties while doing housework. DH is an infantryman in the Army and we're stationed up in Northern New York at Fort Drum where we've been for almost 2 years now. Glad to have some other ladies on this journey for support and encouragement!

@JustinsGirl2011 - We're in Syracuse often! Nice to have someone so close!
@kountingsheep - Yay for English nerds! And can I say how much I love having someone who understands and appreciates the proper use of "affect"?! lol!
@JCM285 - I'm actually certified to teach 7-12 grade English, but prefer the high school levels. Middle schoolers scare me haha!
@Birch113 - I totally learned to knit using Youtube videos! No one around me knows how to, and I really wanted to learn, so I asked a friend from back home for some good starter videos. If you really are interested, I can send you some links
Thanks for the warm welcome ladies! I'm praying that I'll be sticking around until "graduation" this time And praying the same for all of you!!
Welcome and congratulations! Love that we've got so many English nerds here. I'm not a teacher, but I majored in English and I write books. So I have much love for English teachers!
I can totally relate to what you said about the loss affecting your marriage. DH told me the other day that I haven't been myself since November, when I had my first miscarriage. And he's probably right. How could it NOT affect us?
@BookishMomma - I struggled with it, and I know to an extent it changed who I am, but the way it affected my husband was completely unexpected. He blames himself for not being supportive enough at the beginning of the pregnancy (because he was in shock and didn't know how to handle the news at first, so he distanced himself until he could process it all which took about a week). He was so overwhelmed by the stress of the miscarriage that he pulled away even more from me which was a really rough moment for our marriage. We've worked through it all and we're okay now, but you're so right - how can we possibly be the same person after going through everything that comes along with a loss like that.
@Birch113This website has the videos that I used to get started. It's actually got a lot of great information for getting started with knitting. I recommend starting with size 8 needles and #4 yarn (the yarn will have a big 4 inside a box on the label) because those are the most common needle/yarn sizes and are easy to start with. I made a scarf and a dishcloth as my first two projects, and I tend to find all my projects at Ravelry which has free knitting patterns. The patterns can be kind of confusing, so feel free to PM me with any questions!!
@Birch113 Michaels is absolutely going to be your best friend! The yarn there is cheaper than JoAnn's and the selection seems to be better (at least in our stores). I don't know what the selection at Hobby Lobby is like, since we don't have one closer than an hour away, but they usually have wonderful sales too.
Also, these are seriously the best deal for needles. I got them and they are great quality and a huge selection for such a cheap price (you get 18 different sized sets in this pack). Plus I love bamboo more than metal or plastic. However, the needles themselves aren't labeled so you'd want to buy a label set from Michaels if you get these needles.
