It could take up to 6 hours, and they won't know how much of his bowel tissue is viable until they open him up so the results will determine whether this is an issue for a few more weeks while they rehab healthy tissue or for several more years with a potential transplant down the road.
Needless to say, we're terrified and could use all the thoughts, prayers, and positive energy you can spare. Thanks for the continued support, and I'll update when I can, although I'm not sure when that will be.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
Many prayers for baby Lucas! And I do mean many. Prayers for your peace and comfort during this trying time as well. May Gods hands guide the physicians while they work on your precious baby. HUGS
I will be praying for you all. I hope the surgery is successful. Big huge hugs.
