I'm going to a wedding reception on Sunday. I'm going to pump twice to keep up supply, and I would like to have a few cocktails. LO still wakes up in the middle of the night. Should I feed him then or wait until morning? I worry easily and often for no reason. So I'm wondering what your drinking/BF rule is?
I get those strips that check your milk for alcohol. I've had a couple nights where I have had more than a few but my LO has been STTN since 6 weeks so I just feed her in the AM. I think as long as your not feeling drunk you are fine
i've always heard that if you're ok to drive then you're ok to nurse, from both a lactation consultant and the pedi. It leaves your milk at the same rate it leaves your blood. Four hours seems pretty excessive.

I'm choosing not to drink until LO is weaned. We have some addiction in our family so I have this horribly irrational fear that I will trigger some gene. Yes I realize this is crazy. That being said its really what you are comfortable with. I have heard 2 hours for every drink. It metabolizes the same through your breast milk as your liver.

I don't think you're crazy. I didn't have a drink till I was 24 because my father is an alcoholic and he assured me I would become one, too. It took me a long time to realize that I could have a drink here or there without becoming an alcoholic.

This. Those strips are awesome. A little pricey but worth it!
Ok to drive, ok to bf. H is a pedi and says even if a tiny bit of alcohol is in the milk, at worst baby will be sleepy. That's not an excuse to overdo it, just permission not to over-worry.

Me too. Addiction is on my husband's side. I have had one glass of wine in 8 weeks and then didn't pump until the next morning. Not crazy at all. It's a genuine concern.

Re: Drinking/BF?
I was told by the LC in the hospital that drinking was fine as long as you waited 4 hours after drinking before you fed LO again.
EDIT: Whoops! Wrong number... 2 hours not 4.
four hours for each drink?

Absolutely. Vodka works too
