We moved DD in to her crib in her own room at about 11 weeks in anticipation of her reaching 3 mos, which is all her bassinet is rated for (I guess the manufacturers concern is that babies can begin rolling over at 3 mos. and the sides aren't all mesh so there is an increased risk of SIDS).
We started by doing night feedings and changes in her room, then would put her down in her crib during the day in an attempt to get her to nap occasionally, then we moved her bassinet in her room and let her sleep in that overnight. Because she was so used to the room by that point, we didn't have any trouble moving her in to her crib a couple of nights after that. No disruption in her sleep schedule at all, it was great!
Room sharing is actually recommended as a way to reduce SIDS. We kept DD in the room with us for seven months and plans to keep DS at least that long. DD had no trouble adjusting to her crib, even though she never even napped there.

this, except our babe is eight weeks. We sleep better, but his room is right next to ours so we can still hear him when he fusses or cries.
