Nyla

I was grabbing a coffee at DD this morning and there was a mom/daughter (I assume) in front of me, little girl was about 3 or 4, I'd say. Overheard "which donut do you want, Nyla?" (guessing at the spelling, of course).

I'm not sure I've heard it before, but the more I say it out loud the more I like it. Opinions?

(I'm new here, btw. Hey!).

    Welcome!

    I think the sound of Nyla is pretty, but it doesn't feel like it has a lot of substance.  Like, it's just a pretty name, and that's it.

    Nyla is just sort of meh to me.  It reminds me of the Nile river...  It does get bonus points for being unique though!

    It ok, I guess. I've seen Naila before, which might be the same name. The Ny- beginning reminds me a bit of Nyquil.

    I like it as more of a NN for something longer. At the moment, the only thing that comes to mind is Nadine.

    It reminds me of Britney Spear's failed attempt at a restaurant, named NYLA. It was an acronym for New York Los Angeles. Hallie Berry's daughter is Nahla, which is similar but seems more like a name and less like a collection of letters.

    It kind of reminds me of Nylon. 

     

    But it's pretty. Could be worse.

    I heard this name quite a bit when I was living in the Middle East.  Arabic/English transliteration varied:

    Nayla (most common I saw)

    I had a Nyla in class a few years ago. She was charming and lovely and intelligent. I love the name!
