Ferber/Modified Ferber

Has anyone done this type of sleep training? What are the differences between the two. I talked with my pediatrician today about doing a modified ferber method, and forgot to ask when I go into soothe do I put the pacifier in or just pat on the bottom/rub belly/etc. and then leave? I just want to make sure I am doing it right. So scared to try this out, but it's time :(

    I don't think there is an official "Modified" Ferber method, it's just whatever you change about it to work for you.  We did not put the pacifier back in, we would just pat her back and talk to her for a few minutes before leaving and setting a timer

    I highly recommend you getting the Ferber book and read it before starting (i got mine from the library).  It explains baby's sleep patterns and has many exceptions to the "rule" for different situations.  It's way more than just checking in
