I've gotten positive feedback from this board, and hubby and I both like the name. However, I want to make sure I'm not setting our little girl up for a pronunciation nightmare. So, without looking it up, how would pronounce Emmeline?

This. I much prefer the LINE pronunciation over the LEEN one.

HSG: Right tube blocked; unable to clear
Like this, which is the correct way. However, it doesn't appear to be the common way.
If it makes you feel any better, this was how I've always pronounced it too. I think most people will hear you say it before they see it written, I'm not sure you'll have to correct that much? The only people reading it first would be teachers when she's in school, and I don't think that will be much of an issue - one correction at most?
I feel your pain tho, our little girl will be Arianna. And not only is there two spellings, but 2 pronunciations. And we seem to be going with the less popular one (Are e ona). I hesitated for months becuase I didn't want her growing up correcting everyone, but then just decided we love it so much we are using it. I have a phonetically easy name, and people are always messing it up. So you never know... go with it if you love it
I don't really think either is incorrect. I think you're just opting for the French pronunciation. Emmeline is traditionally pronounced emma-LINE in English - it is used in Huck Finn.
It's weird: for me, Caroline is definitely "line", Madeline is "lynn", and Aveline (niece's name) is "leen". But with Emmeline, it's always been unclear to me. If I were reading the name, I would question the pronunciation before definitively calling her any of the three options.
I read Emma-Line as well...and prefer it over Emma-Leen...but after looking at the name again I can see how Emma-Leen it not a stretch of a pronunciation. I guess I just read "line" first.

I would say Emma-leen.

Emma-line. I think the popularity of Madeline/Madeleine/etc. has changed the pronunciation of the ending from "leen" to "line".
