Natural Birth

Nearly 37 weeks, baby has dropped...feet first.

Found out today that baby twisted a ton and is essentially standing up inside me with a slight angle to the right.  We're 37 weeks Saturday and doctor doesn't think baby will turn again on his own.  She listed our options as scheduling a c-section for 39+ weeks or trying version, which may be really difficult since I have an anterior placenta and version doesn't always work well anyways.

Anyone else in a similar boat?  Anyone else have experience in making a decision at this point?  We're hoping to try some exercises like those on Spinning Babies to see if we can encourage him to turn naturally since I was really excited about attempting a natural birth.  Otherwise, we're at a loss as to what to do and have limited time to make a decision.

I'd probably try the version. I'd ask to have it done with an epi, though, as I hear it can hurt a lot without it and that it's also more likely to work if you're relaxed.

I would start with a Webster certified chiropractor to try to get baby to flip. Then I'd try the version. I would not schedule a csection since babies can flip even in labor, so I would wait it out until you're in labor before consenting to the cs.

Spinning babies, then chiro, then version.  Hope something works!

Id  be making an appt with a chiro asap.  I dont think you have time to be dealing with spinning babies stuff, you will have more success before baby gets too cramped, this gives you more time to schedule a ecv too.

spinning babies and the chiropractor.  I had a breech baby up until 37w6d and she finally flipped.  I spent a lot of time upside down on an ironing board, doing inversions, and being adjusted by a chiropractor.  I also took pulsatilla under the recommendation and care of my MW.  Best wishes for a spinning baby!

I posted on here not long ago about some positioning issues and another mama (that I need to thank!) posted this website to find a Webster-certified chiro.  https://icpa4kids.org/Find-a-Chiropractor

I used it and found a fantastic doctor 15 minutes from me. I have been doing exercises on the spinning babies website also and hopefully with these adjustments, we'll be in good shape for labor.

Do the spinning babies exercises...Walk. A lot. As one doctor I spoke with said, the head is the heaviest part of the baby's body. Use gravity! And make an appt with a Webster-certified chiro - today! Then, like the others already said, try the version as the last resort...but I completely agree with the previous poster, don't consent to a c-section until you've exhausted all options and are in active labor and your LO still hasn't turned. Have faith in your body and your baby and give both of you time to sort it out naturally before resorting to major surgery.

I know this is going to sound crazy but it has worked with 2 doula clients, frozen bag of peas up by babies head.... They dislike the cold and turn to try to get away from it. Chiro, spinning babies, and lastly the version, like most others said. Good luck!

I have heard something *sort of* similer with putting peppermint oil on top of belly near baby's head...

My son turned breech at 38 weeks. I went to a chiro for the Webster technique twice while also doing spinningbabies techniques at home. He was head down in a few days.

He then turned transverse (sideways with his hip as the presenting part) while I was in early labor at 39+3. My MW tried a version at 39+4 (after about 24 hours of labor) and he went back to vertex.

I'd try acupuncture/moxibustion, a webster certified chiropractor, Spinning Babies, Hypnobabies has a CD for turning breech babies, and even some yoga to try to encourage your kiddo to turn. Even doing the first step of the Miles circuit just to encourage baby to get back out of the pelvis.

Then you can say you've truly tried everything!  I'd be really afraid to try a version with an anterior placenta.  Doulas are told not to use rebozo techniques with anterior placentas because the rubbing might injure the placenta.  In my mind, an external version would carry the same risks-- not sure if it's true or not.

I've read that babies with an anterior placenta have a higher rate of turning breech but I don't know if there is any science to back that up.

     Good luck!

My best friend had a version done. She didn't have pain meds, said it was VERY uncomfortable and painful at some point during the procedure, but it worked!
