I am planning on putting "big kids" toothpaste in her stocking for Christmas. I think as long as they are getting the idea of spitting and you only use a little bit it should be fine.
At a year. We had a dentist appointment, and she recommended a kids' fluoridated toothpaste. At a year it's just a small smear and at 2, closer to a pea sized amount.
We started using big kid toothpaste about a week or two ago. She sometimes forgets the "spit" half of "rinse and spit" but we use such a small amount that I don't worry much about it.
