Just wanted to see if any of the other Septembers were doing cosleeping. Oh and if I see one smartass comment in my posts about cosleeping is dangerous I will flame that person for all eternity.
How is everyone doing?
How long does your LO sleep?
Are you BFing or FFing?
I have a chunky monkey, who has more than doubled his birth weight by 8weeks, he likes to eat every 1-2hours day/night. I'll be talking to the pedi about this at our appt on the 31st because I'm worn out. His longest stretch of sleep has been 3hrs, uhg, and I'm EBF with one evening bottle of formula supplement because I just can't make enough yet. We may possibly have the LOUDEST baby on earth he is sooooo grunty.
Re: Any other co sleepers here?
not sure if you meant co-bedding instead of co-sleeping because co-sleeping probably wouldn't elicit any smarta$$ remarks...
But we are co-sleeping...LO is in a PNP next to our bed. In the morning when DH gets up for work, me and LO get alittle bonding time and LO gets put in bed with me for a few hours of co-bedding and I love the snuggle time with her. We are bf-ing and little one sleeps for a 6hr stretch from 10-4 and I consider myself lucky since she is already sleeping for 6 hours at only 6 weeks old. After that, she is up every 2.5-3 hours to eat all throughout the day.
I don't all the time, but have a few times. Especially when she was going through her growth spurt, and wanted to latch on to my boob all night long. (literally, I spent the first night of it just switching her back and forth because she would scream bloody murder and frantically search for a nipple every time she unlatched)
I completely understand your decision, especially if LO eats every 1-2 hours at night! and my LO does sleep really well when she is next to me. I think she is warmer, and of course just likes being near mommy.
And, so far, in my experience, every one does at least one thing they said they wouldn't do, or shouldn't do. so people can just keep their flames away
"What did my fingers do before they held you? What did my heart do with it's love?"
DD is in a bassinet next to our bed and most nights requires to be swaddled (although her arms have to be out or she gets PISSED). she's to the point now where she'll go for 6-8 hours at night and then I feed her in the morning. we're EBF but a mix of bottles and nursing depending on schedule. After she eats in the morning (usually somewhere between 5 and 6 am) I usually bring her into bed with me for another 2ish hours. I love the cuddle time and given that she usually goes right back to sleep after the morning feed, but not into a total deep sleep, it's easier to keep her in bed than set her back in the bassinet. Also, if I'm nursing her in the morning I usually have to do it laying on my side because I'm pretty full and my letdown is STRONG and any other way we try and nurse she chokes...poor kid....so when she falls asleep, she's already in bed!
We're planning on moving her to the crib (which is upstairs, we have have a Master BR downstairs) once she hits the 8-10 hours at night stretch.
We are doing it here. We did not plan to, but Luka will not sleep in his bassinet for more than 10 mins without screaming. I am bfing and he loves to snuggle and fall asleep after, so it's much more convenient for us. Hopefully, in a few months we can transition to crib.
eta: and he will sleep in between feedings that way, and sometimes, if he cluster feeds, he'll sleep for several hours in a row.
Anyway, he is growing quick, we have a pedi appointment tomorrow, but I would guess that he's put on at least 3lbs from birth. He sleeps usually between 8-10 hours all together. He wakes up once in the middle of the night to eat, and stays awake for up to 2 hours at that time. I'm BFing.
All of this exactly! I am bottle feeding her breastmilk. When she starts sleeping longer stretches I am going to try to transition her to her crib.
We are bed sharing, which was definitely NOT in our plans. Wyatt will not sleep in his crib, and though at first he did sleep in the swing, he won't anymore. We are sleeping on the couch. It sucks and I hate it- the sleeping on the couch part. I miss sleeping in the same bed as my husband, and on a real bed.
I'd like to transition him to his crib, but he screams for hours if I put him in it. He won't just scream/cry for a bit and then fall asleep.
I didn't want to co-bed, but I end up doing it almost every night out of sheer desperation.
I have a basinet and a swing next to my side of the bed and sometimes LO will fall asleep in one or the other, but often it isn't until I put her next to me in the bed and she nurses to sleep that she will stay asleep for more than 10-30 mins at a time.
Which make having any quality alone time with my husband impossible..
Oh well, I know she won't be an infant forever and I want to have fond memories of this time with her- not terrible stressed out screaming baby memories, and if that means that she sleeps next to me and falls asleep on the boob, then so be it.
Sometimes after she falls asleep in the bed, I will ever so gently move her beck to the swing or the bassinet. But at 4 in the morning, I am lucky if I stay awake til she is done nursing, let alone have the energy to get up and try and move her in my sleepy stupor.
I think that co sleeping is gonna be a tough habit to break, and I can see how it could be dangerous if you were drunk or something, but I am always aware that she is right there next to me. I sleep so much lighter now that I hear every movement or grunt she makes. There is no way I could roll over on her or let her fall out of the bed. I am just too in sync w/ her while she is so close. Plus I am really careful to keep the blankets and pillows clear of her.
Me too! Well, my son is 6 weeks, but is growing pretty well. He likes to eat all the time too, and can be really fussy-- he has to be held and comfort nurse to calm down. At least I'm not the only one with a little one attached to me 24/7 and who sleeps for such short periods, but unfortunately I think it's normal. Some babies just have this personality. I sleep with him and my husband is sleeping on a trundle-type mattress that pulls out from under the big bed. At first I was afraid I would crush him, but he really wanted to be close to me all the time and I got used to it. I think I get more sleep, too, than I would getting up all the time.
And he is super grunty too... Hahaha I call him my little piggy!
Same for my LO. I insist on putting him to bed in the bassinet, which is typically after 11, and I'll bring him to bed with me during the night time feedings. He's usually awake twice a night to feed, but I'm lucky if I'm awake enough to place him back to the bassinet without tripping the fussiness.
I swore I would never bedshare with DS1 and I didn't. I swore up and down again I would never bedshare. Well, guess what, I bedshare. We have a bassinet in our room and DS2 usually won't even let me get into bed before he starts crying. So some nights I end up holding him. I sit propped up, have the boppy around my midsection and he sleeps on my chest. I bring the car seat into our room and sometimes he'll sleep in that. Which isn't great either. But I figure it's better than me holding him.
It's not ideal but he cries in the bassinet and sometimes the car seat. I don't want him waking up DH or DS and I need to sleep too. So that's what we're doing.
with my first I hated cosleeping, I couldnt sleep with her in the bed with us, I was too worried I would roll on her.
now DD#2 is BFing every two hours and I'm beat from the day of two kids I dont have the strength to fight her. so yea...she starts out in her bassinet next to the bed but ends up in bed with me... plus she has awful reflex and wants to sleep sitting up so I do as well ;p
We switched to a RnP after the GERD diagnosis and he sleeps 10 times better for the first 2 stretches at night. However, he ends up in our bed in the early morning, when he doesn't sleep as well on his own. So, you may very well end up with a combo! Good luck...reflux sucks.
Co-sleeping is a broad term with subtypes. You side-sleep and she bed-shares.
I bedshare most of the time but I do have a RnP in our room if she's feeling rather independent. HAHA. She sleeps really well in bed with me and I get more sleep that way too. I nurse in a side lying position all night and then pump the boob that did get nursed and it is a system my mom suggested and it works great for me.
I, like a few other bumpies, didn't think I'd end up co-sleeping. I am happy with the arrangement for now but I can't see myself co-sleeping in the long run (like a family bed with toddlers and children.) But who knows, I have learned to never say never.
This is what happened to us with DD#1 ... we actually ended up loving it (and getting way more sleep, since I was EBF) DD#2 hasn't figured out side-laying 100% just yet but otherwise it's going really well. She usually will give us a good 4 hours at a time, sometimes 5.. seems to like laying in the crook of my elbow more than lying flat on the bed.

We co-sleep but we don't bedshare all the time. R sleeps in a PNP beside the bed and then comes into bed with me in the mornings after DH leaves for work, though I don't really sleep then. We mostly nurse and snuggle for a few hours before getting up.
He sleeps amazingly well at night. Usually from a little after 11 to about 5:30 or 6ish in the morning.
