I had it done because my doc is hoping I will go in to labor on my own before my induction on Tuesday. (Being induced for high BP). Otherwise I probably wouldn't have done it.

Yeah, it hurts so your not missing out. Mine was thinking it would just start labor. Well I've had it done twice now and I still haven't popped this LO out.
I haven't...and didn't with Drew even though I went a week past my due date.
In fact, my doc never even mentioned it (which is fine by me b/c I wouldn't have wanted it anyway). If not for the bump, I'd never have heard of membrane stripping.

Exactly all of this. I was 4 days past due last time and no one even mentioned it. I really never heard of it outside of the Bump.
For those of us who do chose to have it done, it's probably more out of desperation than anything. I would rather have the slight discomfort of membrane stripping than the much more uncomfortable and invasive induction. Not that membrane stripping is a guarantee of impending labor, but it does help sometimes. And that's my 2 cents.
I was offered this past week and declined. I think I might on Monday though, if my regular doctor offers-I'll be 40 weeks then, and I am hoping not to have an induction.

Having it done Monday if I'm dilated at all. Otherwise, I will be induced the following Monday which would put a serious wrench in my plan to have a med-free delivery. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't do it. Lesser of 2 evils. My practice won't let me go past 41 weeks.
Not sure if this was the same thing or not, but my doc did "something" he said breaking it down, because I had some scar tissue and he thought that might have been keeping me from dialating any farther. (at 39wks and again yesterday I was 1cm 90%effaced). Not something I would recommend, I almost climbed off the back of the table. We also sched. an induction for Wed. if baby doesn't come before.

I've asked not to have it done.

Um, why so early? That doesn't seem right, especially since you didn't even know.
