Cycle different after the pill?

My husband and I have been trying since May for our first. I'm 25 and in good health. Before we got married and I went on the pill, I was one of those lucky girls who could count on good ole AF like clockwork, but ever since coming off the pill in April it has been all over the place, with some months no period at all. Is it normal to have everything be so different after 2.5 years on the pill?

Thanks!

From what I have read on this site, most gals' af is completely wacked after getting on hormonal bc. Usually takes 2-3 months to be some-what normal.

This is exactly what BCPs do - regulate your cycle.

After 9 years on the pill, my body started to ovulate just fine.  But that isn't the case with everyone.  (As a consolation, I also got migraines and felt nauseated/dizzy the entire first cycle off BCP.)

Everyone's reaction is different.  It can take 4-6 months or more for your body to get back to "normal," and even then, you could have anovulatory months or months with delayed O.  Don't worry just yet.  You can start testing whenever you feel comfortable if AF is late.  If AF doesn't come by CD60, call your doctor.

Everyone's body is different so I've heard it can take anywhere from missing one pill to a year...

If you haven't been charting your BBT start now! If there is a problem if can be diagnosed by looking at your chart.

I recommend the book "Making Babies". Lots of great info!

I'm not sure about the missed periods but I do think what your going through is normal. I stopped taking BC August 1st and my cycles have been all over the place. Before the pill I got AF like clock work too. It seems like it takes a few months for your system to regulate itself.

I'm actually relieved to read your post. I have been on BCP for the last 9 years and stopped taking them in September. I was just like you and could count every cycle to be 28 days like clockwork. October's cycle was 29 and this cycle I am going on CD33 I think...and it's freaking me out just thinking about how long it can take to get back to "normal" whatever that may be. GL to you!

I was on bcp's for 3 years. I was like clockwork prior to taking the pill and have been off of it since March. I am 28 in and in good health. In June we started really trying and my cycles started to be between 33-52 days long. Recently I asked to have bloodwork done and found out I'm not ovulating. NO point in trying if there are no eggs to be fertilized! Either too long or too short of a cycle usually indicated you're not ovulating.

They have put me on clomid, 50mg for the first month and that didn't work. So now they will up the clomid to 100mg and I will have to go back for MORE bloodwork to see if I ovulated.

I would suggest getting your progesterone tested to see if you're ovulating. It is a furstrating process though. Good luck, hope this helps!

Before the pill, I was every 28 days, like clockwork, no problem. I was on it for 10 years. I came off, and I went to every 35 or 36 days. Super frustrating. After 3 months, it never changed. Financial situation changed, and DH and I have stopped trying for now, so I don't know if it ever went back to normal.
