Is this true?

DH's friend and his wife came over yesterday. The convo turned to BFing and she was saying how in Latino cultures, it isn't common for the mother to BF during the first few days. She said they don't view colostrum as real milk, so they feed the baby formula until the milk comes in.

I have never heard of this custom before? Wouldn't it hinder supply? I'm curious if anyone else has heard this.

Interesting.  I would think it would hinder supply as well.

im not latina but my dh is and all their family does not believe this, theyre pretty much the opposite, they believe that the baby should nurse. I even had an aunt of dh's offer to nurse my ds while they were at the hospital visiting when i had him (i was TOTALLY creeped and grossed out by even the offer!!)
