Bronchitis=anitbiotics=diaper rash???

DD is sick for the first time so this is all new to me. She came down with bronchitis on Monday and the doc prescribed antibiotics. Since she has been taking them she has had horrible diaper rash. Her whole diaper area is red and bumpy. I called the nurse today and she told me to put an athletes foot cream on her tush then A&D and a diaper. We shall see if it works.

Has anyone dealt with a bad diaper rash while taking anitbiotics? If so have you ever heard of putting athletes foot cream on it?

    Diaper rash can be a form of thrush...or something along the same lines.

    Antibiotics can cause yeast infections or thrush.

    This.  Also, antibiotics can cause diarrhea which is more acidic and the acidity can cause diaper rash.

    Thanks girls. This is also our first time with diaper rash at all. We have been very lucky. DD doesnt have diarrhea though so its prob the yeast infection.

    YES!!!

    DD gets a terrible diaper rash every time she is on antibiotics. And she has had 6 ear infections, so she has been on them quite a bit. (have an appointment with an ENT next month, yeah!) Our doc told us to put on diaper rash cream, then Vaseline, and then a light dusting of powder. She said to make it "cake icing" thick. She also said to let her soak in a warm bath with baking soda. After her first bath we saw a HUGE improvement. But, the best thing you can do it let you LO be diaper free as much as possible. Last weekend we put a blanket out in the backyard and just hung out almost all day Saturday.
