I know this is a dumb question but I'm wondering...

Is it safe to use a heating pad when your pregnant? Even in Like, the early weeks?? I know its a dumb question but I don't want to mess anything up...

Visiting from 2nd tri... I have really bad back and leg pains from scitica and my dr told me to lay on a heating pad. It all depends on what your dr thinks.

It is def. not a dumb question. But sadly it is not a good idea.  I believe "What to expect when your expecting" is the book I read that said they are great ideas, also heating blankets.  And anything else that would raise your body temp. ecspecially during the early months.

If you're using it on your back it's definitely fine. They only heat the surface of the muscles and definitely won't affect your internal temperature.(My  husband is a physical therapist and has researched how much heat penetrates. Even the stuff he has at the hospital doesn't go more than a couple inches.)

In fact, when I called my OB with a cramping question she said it was likely RLP and to try a heating pad.

My doc says NO to that and to anything heated that will cause your body temp to rise (like a HOT bath).

He said if it turns your skin red, it's too hot.  And anthing that raises your temp to 102 degrees (I think that was the temp) is not good for baby.

I'm going to ask him Wednesday if I can use one on my back..... On low of course.
