You'll never get away from the Wizard of Oz thing. For me, it's one of those old lady names that should not make a come back.
I do like the NNs though. Dot, Dottie, Dodie. I would actually lean towards Dorothea or Dorit
It's such a charming name. I wouldn't call it a classic though.
The Wizard of Oz connection does not bother me at all.

I think it's cute, and the NN Dottie puts it into LOVE territory for me.
I went to college with a Dorothy, NN Dottie. She was kind of an artsy free spirit, and I really liked the name on her.
