Dorothy?

Too wizard of oz? Or classic? It's growing on me.

Re: Dorothy?

  • I meant Dorothy. I'm half asleep and it popped into my head! Oops!
  • I don't like it at all, but the nosy old bat next door is Dorothy, so take that in consideration with my opinion. ;)

  • I went to school with a girl names Dorothy mid30's now, so I can see it on a young person. It's NMS, but I don't find it too old fashioned or automatically think of The Wizard of Oz either.

  • It's my mothers name and we talked about using it. I was really leaning that way, but husband was worried about the wizard of oz. His father is from Kansas and some extended family is still there, so he probably feels that more than the avg person. And he was worried it sounded old.

So we compromised and put it in the MN spot. I'm so happy to see it popping up here!

My great grand was Dora and I love that version of the name. I would have pushed hard on that as FN except Dora the Explorer killed it for me. My niece was obsessed with that character. So sad. So I focused on using Dorothy in some capacity instead.

  • It's such a charming name.  I wouldn't call it a classic though.

The Wizard of Oz connection does not bother me at all.

    Also, love the NN Thea!

  • I love it, and there are certainly worse associations than the Wizard of Oz.

  • I have two aunts named Dorothy. One is aunt Dottie and one is aunt dot. I think it's a great name.. Super cute for a little girl and a fine name to grow in to. Lots of cute nn possibilities too. If you like it go for it!
  • I think it's cute, and the NN Dottie puts it into LOVE territory for me.

I went to college with a Dorothy, NN Dottie. She was kind of an artsy free spirit, and I really liked the name on her.

  • Like the nicknames, but can't get on board with Dorothy. Screams old, in a not so good way.

  • It is very Wizard of OZ, and everyone will always associate the name Dorothy with that.  I don't love it but I don't hate it either.

I got a notification of this and I'm pretty sure I posted this last 2012July!

  • I am only on board with Dorothy because I love the NN Dot. Not Dottie, though. Just Dot.
