... And a tiny little penis!
To say I'm shocked is an understatement, but I would have been just as gobsmacked if baby had a vagina. Ha. I knew our first was a little girl, no doubt about it, but this time I had no inkling as to what was swimming around down there in my belly. I'm so thrilled, and hope he grows up smart and kind like his Daddy.
We're already setting him up to be a nerd at least. Ha.
We decided to do an elective ultrasound yesterday, simply to make sure baby was looking OK so we can finally tell our families today. (Only our Moms know, and I'm 17 weeks already!) We won't be buying anything else/registering until things are confirmed at our Anatomy Scan on Jan. 30, but I'm just happy to see that Otter had a strong heartbeat and was as active as always.
I'll admit it was a tough day though, because it
did make me miss our first so much. When I wrote about our loss last
year, I started it off with these song lyrics:
?So can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I?m still young? I wanna hold her hand and show her some beauty before all this damage is done. But if it?s too much to ask, it?s too much to ask ? Then send me a son.? ? Arcade Fire
So, needless to say, there were many tears for her ... But I can not wait to welcome her brother into this world.
And since I'm on an AW roll here, I'll let you all know that my partner and I got engaged on New Year's Day. It was more of a formality, since he was already stuck with me forever anyway. Ha. But it was super sweet, and exciting! We have been showered with love since then from so many, and I can't wait to make our other good news public at the end of the month.
After the hardships of last year, 2013 is shaping up to be great so far.
