DH and I were just talking about how much people assume 6 figures is. When you hear that someone makes 6 figures, what is the range that you assume the salary is?
This. But I think even though people know this is technically true, their mind conjures up a lot more. The lowest of the 6 figures, in a HCOL area, isn't the wealth people tend to think it is. Not by a long shot.
Well, six figures means $100,000-999,999. But it totally depends on the context. It's usually obvious if someone is trying to imply that someone is rich or makes a lot of money. And $100,000 doesn't make you rich, so I would guess more than that.
ETA: on the other hand, if it's obvious someone is trying make themselves sound rich by saying "6 figures", I'd assume they're "only" making $100,000.

Re: 6 figure salary = how much money
This.

$100,000-999,999 lol.
Really though, if I know what their profession is that narrows it down.

This, since "6 figures" means 6 numbers make up their salary dollar amount, not including cents.
I mostly assume $100,000....plus I listen to the way the person says it
Like "He, for sure, makes 6 figures!" $250,000 +
or " I think she is making 6 figures now" $100,000
