I would never use a name pronounced Koon, which according to Behind the Name is the correct pronunciation of Koen. The name Koa is not my style, and if you're not of Polynesian descent then it seems strange.
I know two little boys named Koen/Cohen (not sure on each spell their name). Both of them are adorable though
These are not the same. Koen is not an alternate spelling for Cohen, nor would it be pronounced the same way.
Koen is a Dutch variant of the longer name Koenraad, and is pronounced Koon (like Raccoon).
Let's not get into another debate over the name Cohen. OP if you are indeed changing the 'C' to a 'K' and expecting to pronounce it the same as Cohen, please don't.
If you're not of Polynesian descent you shouldn't use Koa. And Koen does not work as a name in the states, if you live in Europe, you're probably fine, but I'd still go for a longer name and leave it as a nick name.
And I respect LNic5, but Cohen is not an appropriate name either.

I'm aware of that, but it is how they pronounce it

Neither. One is where you go RV camping. The other is just not going to work unless you are Dutch, and if that's the case, there's got to be other options.
We(technically DH but with my crazy ln I get to claim it as well ) are Hawaiian and have Koa and Makoa in the mix as boy middle names... so out of your two choices I'd choose Koa.

Back to the drawing board.
