UPDATE: 2nd beta was 113, from 61. Yay! It didn't exactly double in 48 hours, but very close. The nurse from the RE's office was happy with the progress and scheduled my ultrasound for 7 weeks. They were not going to require any more betas, but I asked for a couple more, due to my loss history. I said there's no way I can get from now until 7 weeks without any info at all. So I'll go in for 2 more. Probably a 3rd on Saturday and then a 4th like a week later. I know I'm far from out of the woods, but I'm just happy it wasn't bad news, which is what I was bracing for.
--------------------------
Just got the call from the nurse at my RE's office with my first beta number. It's 61. I "should" be 15 dpo today, or 4 weeks. I wasn't temping this cycle, though, so that's a guess based on OPKs. I feel like the number is a bit low. The nurse was not at all concerned by the number and told me congratulations. She said it's within range of where they like to see it--she said they like to see anything over 50 at 4 weeks. She said to come in again on Thursday for a repeat draw and that we would hope for anything over 90. When I asked, "shouldn't it double?" she said that's an old wive's tale and that if it doubles, then great, but an increase of 50% over 48 hours is fine.
I've been getting HPT positives (albeit faint ones at first) since 9dpo. With my PGAL brain and 3 losses under my belt, I can't help wondering, shouldn't it be higher? I'm sitting here doing math in my head... and I guess it could be fine, if my HCG was like 7 or 8 when I got my first positive. But, gah! I hate that I'm even GOING there in my head. Why is it so hard to trust our doctor's offices? WE KNOW TOO MUCH!
This pregnancy started at with a beta of 24, and I'd been getting positive Wondfo tests for a few days at that point. Since my last (doomed) pregnancy had an initial beta of ~650, I have definitely come to believe that different pregnancies just have very different levels of HCG in your system, and the levels on their own mean nothing.
Don't freak out about the number, although I know this is easier said than done. Good luck on Thursday!!!
***Losses mentioned.*** TTC #1 since May 2012. Me: 37, OH: 41. Ectopic August 2012 => tubal damage. Stage 1 endo removed June 2013. FET #1 PUPO as of 7/29 Betas: 8/7@24, 8/9@97, 8/11@334 (etc.) Two sacs on 8/15, one seen on 8/18 after a bleed. U/s 8/25 (6+3) "perfect": 5.9 mm + HB@120bpm! U/s 9/4 (7+6): 15.9 mm + HB@172 bpm! Please, PLEASE stick this time!!!!
Hey, lady! I recently took my betas down (off of my siggy), but my first draw was 8.8 (I think I was also 15 DPO)!!! My LO was a fast climber, however, so he/she is measuring right on with my O date. FX that you get a doubled number on your next draw so you can worry a bit less!
Thanks, @Happyin14 I know it's the doubling that matters. But the nurse made it sound like that's not even as big a deal as I thought! I've just been down the low beta road too many times before and not had it turn out well (though, admittedly, they were all lower than this).
@pblge Yeah, I should know better, right!? I mean, my last loss I had super high initial betas, like 1300 or something. And we ended up losing that one to a chromosomal abnormality. So, really, I know that even GREAT betas aren't a guarantee...
So my betas this pregnancy were: 82*; 230; 510; 1068; 2510. Now: 22 weeks + 1 day.
With DD: 194, 532, 1466. She's two years old.
Waiting is the worst. You need a trend and some rising. Different RE's use different formulas and it is true that you don't need a strict "doubling" but a percentage with other values (progesterone level, method of conception) coming into play.
*that first beta with this pregnancy was at somewhere between 14-16 DPO, we weren't 100% sure when O occurred.
*with DD I was around DPO 17-20. Way later.

With my last, my betas were high and doubling, which led my doc to believe all was fine. We had a chromosomal abnormality as well so don't let those numbers fool you. FX for Thursday's numbers!!
Sending you all the positive doubling beta vibes I can muster!!! FWIW, my first beta was in the 20's around 12dpo and 50's around 15dpo!

That's a great first beta! Like everyone has said, you have to start somewhere & all that matters is doubling. My office likes to see 67% increase in 48 hours. FX for you on Thursday.
It's hard not to analyze every single thing as a PGAL lady- but that number sounds great, and it's so true that it's what that number does on Thursday that matters. Sending good vibes your way for a great beta rise!!!

My doc has never given me my number from my draws, thankfully. So I can't add anything there. I just wanted to send some good thoughts your way and I hope you don't have to wait long for good news.
I don't have a low beta story (as I didn't track with this pregnancy) but I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you!!!! ((hugs)) hang in there, the wait is always the worst!
My first beta this time was 73 at 4w0d. Not sure how many DPO since I had taken the month off from temping. It has risen nicely. T&P to you during this waiting time...plain and simple, it sucks.
I think that is a fine number. Like everyone said, it's Thursday's number that matter. Now, please, get out of your head, it's dangerous!! Love and ((Hugs)) my friend!!
My beta 16dpo was 77 with this pregnancy and 18dpo 168. It's hard not to scrutinize and freak out over the number, but at this point, it doesn't really tell you much of anything. Waiting is awful, but the only thing to be done. Fx for rising betas and for time to move quickly!
I think that is a fine number. Like everyone said, it's Thursday's number that matter. Now, please, get out of your head, it's dangerous!! Love and ((Hugs)) my friend!!

Ha ha, you know me too well, @megrae12. My head is a very, very dangerous place.
I think that's a great starting number! I'm not 100% sure now, but I think mine started in the 70's at 11/12dpo.
Hang in there!! I know it's hard to try and be positive, I wasn't very positive early on, I referred to my negativity as realistic. This always angered dh, so he was the more optimistic one.
I guess I'm saying that we (AL) are here to be your yin & yang. We will have the optimism for you if you can't find it

Hi there! My doctor told me today that numbers not doubling is not uncommon. Mine didn't double, but did increase. FX that your next draw goes up. Sending hugs!

My first beta at 14DPO (11 dp3dt) was 41, I was super nervous but it all worked out, so everyone and every pregnancy is different. FX for great numbers Thursday.
