Re: ****Been There Done That 1st Check-In**** 10-21
We are in the middle of our 5th IVF/FET cycle (we also did 4 IUIs, 1 clomid, 1 unmedicated, and 2 clomid + trigger, before moving on to IVF). This cycle will be our 4th fresh IVF. My first IVF was in August 2013 which ended in a canceled transfer after all of our embryos arrested. We did our 2nd IVF in October 2013, which resulted in a c/p. Our 3rd IVF was in January 2014 and was a BFN. On the advice of my old RE we moved on to donor embryos and did a FET in May 2014 which was also a BFN. My current diagnosis is low progesterone, poor response to stims, CF carrier, hostile CM, High NKC, high cytokines, APA+, heterozygous mutated for Factor XIII v34l (random clotting issue), and poor blood flow to my uterus and possibly left ovary. DH has slightly low morph, but his SCSA testing came back excellent.
This cycle we switched REs (same clinic) and also are working with a RI. I will be on SIRM's agonist/antagonist conversion protocol with estrogen priming. My RI protocol is 10mg prednisone and IVIG for NKC and cytokines, and baby aspirin and lovenox for clotting/blood flow issues.
This week is a little busy on the IVF front. Tomorrow I have to have my blood work drawn for the RI to test NKC and cytokines (which requires overnight shipping of the blood to her lab), Thursday I have my baseline u/s and b/w, Thursday evening I have a therapy appointment, and if all looks good I start estrogen priming on Friday.

PAIF/SAIF Welcome!
MH and I started this journey about 2.5 years ago. Due to MH's Cancer we only have his frozen sperm to work with. We did our first IVF cycle in September 2013 and it yielded 10 great quality embryos. Due to a severe case of OHSS our embies were frozen and we had our first FET in October 2013 which resulted in a BFN. I was diagnosed with a mild case of adenomyosis which was then treated with Lupron for 3 months. Our 2nd FET resulted in twin conceptions. At week 5 I began to bleed. At week 7 I lost the first twin. At week 9 I lost the second twin. Utter devastation. I changed RE's because I wasn't willing to listen to the "gestational carrier is your only option" talk anymore. My betas had to be tracked to zero which took about 4 months! I had a polyp removed and did 2 months of LUPRON (frankly not long enough). Then we did our 3rd FET which resulted in another BFN. My WTF appt is on October 27th and I hope we get something encouraging from the appt because right now I'm pretty discouraged:(

Hello All,
We have completed 3 rounds of IVF. The first round resulted in a CP. Rounds 2 and 3 we did a freeze all. I did my 1st FET in September, which resulted in a BFN. We are just begging FET#2. I have low egg reserve (due to my age) and my husband has low sperm count. On top of everything else my uterus hates me, and usually has some issue.
@O2girl - GL with your appointment.
@Justone13 - so far those are great numbers! FX they continue to grow and give you lots of eggs!!

My backstory: DH and I have been trying for almost 3.5 years. We got pregnant naturally after 1.5 years but it ended in an ectopic. IVF #1 was 12/13 BFN no frosties. IVF #2 2/14 BFN, one frostie. Somewhere along the way our RE diagnosed me with DOR and Hashi's. We started seeing Dr KK in June and she started me on metformin, a bunch of supplements, metanx and upped my synthroid. We got a BFP on a natural cycle in September, but it ended at 6w4d. Really hoping my beta is negative soon.
No clue really when we may do IVF #3 or maybe use our frostie. We may try naturally or maybe go backwards and try some IUIs.
@twinkie0612 I have everything crossed for you this cycle!
@justone13 it sounds like your cycle is going great so far!
@O2girl I'm so sorry about your BFN. I've been following your story since I was just a lurker on this board and I was really hoping this was it for you. I hope your doc has some great new ideas on the 27th.
@Twinkie0612: GL with everything you have going on!
@O2girl ((Hugs)) I hope your RE has some insight on your cycle!
@cwoodward777 Welcome! Sorry you have found yourself here!
@missmarypoppins (((Huge hugs))) I am so sorry for your loss.
AFM: My DH and I have been married for 11years and have been TTC since 2008. In 2009 I was dx with Diminished ovarian reserve; DH has a perfect SA and Sperm DNA fragmentation.
Short story, we are now on our 7th attempt of IVF, depending on how I categorize things.
Below is our extended TTC HX:
IUI 1 & 2: BFN
Consulted with S.IRM L.V and moved forward with IVF.
IVF#1 W/ICSI= BFN
IVF# 2= cancelled d/t no response
IVF 2.2= 1 egg retrieved=immature/not viable
IVF# 3= chemical pregnancy

New dx-DH: Balanced translocation 5&10
Me: Decreased blood flow to uterus

*****New RE (local clinic)*****
DE IVF# 1 w/pgd, (freeze all): 30R, 23M, 15F, 4 biopsied, 1 Normal "Norm" DE
FET# 1: c/p
Poor development of embryos, unexplained MFI, perfect SA and normal sperm DNA fragmentation. We were looking for answers so I had a Lap and we learned I have mild endo.
We are out of money. We took a mini break figured out our finances. It looked like we could squeeze in a few more cycles, with the help of family. So our RE suggested attempting IVF with my own eggs and donor sperm/Mini IVF x 3 Embryo banking. Adding heparin, steroids, intralipids the when we transfer our embryos.
IVF #4 (OE/DS) Mini IVF EPP: Cancelled. My lone follicle stopped growing and E2 levels fell.
IVF #4.2 (OE/DS) Testosterone priming is under way. My baseline went really well yesterday. My AFC was 3 (left Ovary). That is the best it’s been in several years. Typically my right ovary is the producer, so it’s very surprising. I have to make it to retrieval this time!

Hi Ladies,
I'm preparing myself for IVF #4! It's been a year since I first met with my RE and we started this IVF journey/battle in Jan. I thought my first BFN was just bad luck and of course it would work for IVF #2, since my RE was still giving me a 60% chance, but we changed up the protocol and had terrible results, so not surprising to me, it was another BFN. When we went into IVF #3, we changed back to the protocol from IVF #1 and added the implantation failure protocol, so I was sure it would work, and it looked like had, but we had a missed miscarriage diagnosed at the first u/s.
During the whole IVF process I put on more than 30lbs so I promised myself that I would take a break and get healthy after the m/c, so starting 1 August, I implemented the majority of the recommendations from "It Starts with the Egg" and started the Medifast diet. At my WTF appointments (I had one by myself and one with my husband) I also pushed for any possible changes/additions that would improve our IVF results, including looking harder at the sperm component and if there were other meds we should try to get better results.
The current plan is to start Estrogen patches after I get my LH surge this month and move into a modified antagonist with implantation failure protocols and adding extraction at the same time as ER so we can see if that will help with our fertilization rates. My husband was not on board with having to do the extraction, but has finally come around since I have impressed upon him that I can't keep doing this and since I'm trying everything possible to improve our chances, I need him to do his part. We are probably looking at ER/ET in mid to late November. We did discuss the possibility of adding HGH, but my RE didn't think it would give me enough improvements to justify the added expense (we are 100% OOP).
I want to give another plug for "It Starts with the Egg" since I had a fairly dramatic improvement in my numbers from Oct 2013 to Sept 2014. I was about the same weight at the time of the testing, so I'm mainly crediting the supplements and lifestyle changes I adopted from the book: no eating, drinking, heating, or storing foods from/in plastic containers, switched to natural cleaners, natural soaps and shampoos, added a ton of supplements, cut out alcohol, soda, bread, pasta, junk food. It has sometimes been a big pain, but my AFC went from 12 to 16, my FSH went from 10.1 to 6.7 and my AMH went from 1.4 to 1.7. I'm so pleased with those results and hopeful that two more months of the changes will give me an even better improvement.
I'm also super happy with my progress on the Medifast diet, and have so far lost 33lbs. I'm trying to see how much more I can lose until ER, though I haven't actually talked to my nurse, yet, about if she thinks I need to eat more "normally" during stimming.
I am frequently alternating between hopelessness and optimism about my upcoming IVF cycle. Our IVF failures has really caused a huge strain on my marriage, which puts more pressure on it working.
Sorry for the novel!!!

@mm29 good luck with your cycle, it sounds like it's off to a good start! I'm curious about the unexplained MFI. Was that conclusion drawn after the DE cycle? I just haven't heard of perfect frag and analysis and there still being an issue. But now it has me thinking..

PAIF/SAIF Welcome!
I suppose I should be added under 'currently cycling' and my line should say "IVF #5: DE IVF #1." Here's my IVF history in bulletpoints:
IVF #1 - fresh transfer of two Day 3 pre-embryos. BFN. No frosties.
IVF #2 - canceled 3 days past ER due to all embryos arresting.
IVF #3 - one blastocyst made it to freeze.
FET #1 - BFN
The anniversary of our IVF #1 BFN is tomorrow. I am having a hard time with it.
I also got a call today from my rheumotologist (Dr. KK suggested that I see one after my ANA panel came back with a strong positive). I have officially been diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome, and apparently have inactive lupus in my system. I'm not really sure what that means yet, and will learn more when I go for my follow-up appointment on Nov 3.
The week of Nov 3rd brings three very important appointments for this cycle: rheumy follow-up, RE lining check (the only one scheduled before transfer), and KK follow-up/Doppler/transfusion. I am very worried about all three of them now.
My biggest concern at the moment is the potential for autoimmune diseases to penetrate the placenta, cause irregular fetal heartbeat, and restrict fetal growth. This increases the risk of miscarriage in the first trimester. I do not know by how much, and maybe I don't want to ask that question.
@justone13 - My FET is scheduled for 11/19.
@RunCC37 - Good Luck with your current cycle.
@Carol77B - Congrats on losing all of that weight!! I'm impressed.

@missmarypoppins, the only way it can be explained is unexplained MFI. IMO, I think it has to do with the balanced translocation he carries. My RE had said usually the only indication for embryos slowing down after day 4 is due to MFI (sperm) and since his DNA frag was normal and his SA is normal she did not "know" what is wrong with his sperm. With BT the only way to know there is a problem with the embryos are due to them being chromosomally abnormal, but I don’t buy it. I think that if the embryos are chromosomally abnormal a lot of them will not progress to blastocysts. But I’m no expert.
It makes me sad, because it was the 1 thing we had going for us. It crushed my DH. He has taken it really hard, but said it would be a double standard if we didn't try DS, since we did have a DE cycle

Hi everyone, I am currently on Lupron for my 2nd IVF cycle and scheduled to start stims on Friday. We are starting with a lower dose of gonal this time to hopefully slow down follicle growth to maximize the number of eggs retrieved. Our last IVF cycle I had close to 25 follicles but only retrieved a total of 8 eggs, 5 mature and fertilized, 1 blast transferred and 3 to freeze.
A little background on our journey: We have had 1 IVF that was technically a CP but I consider a BFN (beta was 5.1 when). We also did 2 FET with the first resulting in an early MC and the second being a BFN.

@MeatandBandP I can't see why you wouldn't use the steroids with a FET, too. Maybe ask your nurse? Luckily, it was such a low dose (5mcg, I think?) that I didn't seem to experience any negative side effects from them, but found it crazy that I had to wean myself off of them!

Hello everyone. I am currently waiting for our 1st attempt at Donor Egg IVF. DH and I have been TTC since June 2011. We did have a surprise BFP while waiting for our 1st RE appointment in February 2013 but I m/c'd at just under 6 weeks. We started doing IUI's that April. After 4 failed IUI's we decided to move on to IVF. Our first IVF cycle was in January and I got a positive beta. Beta 2 was lower and after the 3rd we knew it was another m/c. In May I had a laproscopy/hysteroscopy and everything looked fine. Our RE also did RPL testing and I found out I have Factor 5 Leiden and MTHFR. We did IVF #2 in July. Even though I was put on a lot more meds since I didn't respond as well as they thought, I did even worse. The doctor only retrieved 3 eggs (2 were mature). They both fertilized but were poor quality so we did a 2dt. That IVF failed. Our doctor suggested using DE since I don't produce enough eggs and they are poor quality. We have our donor picked and our finances in order. We are scheduled for January. Never thought I'd be here, but here I am. Sorry if this was long

I'm 32 and DH is 37 and we married in Sept 2011. We started to TTC a little over a year after we were married (Dec 2011) and were elated to get a BFP in early Jan 2013. At the end of January, we found out we had a missed miscarriage. We were devastated but my OB/GYN wasn't concerned because we got pregnant quickly and it was our first miscarriage. After an agonizing natural miscarriage helped along with misprostol and months of tracking betas to zero, we were ready to TTC again. Two chemical pregnancies later, we knew something wasn't right and made an appt with an RE in July 2013. All the testing resulted in now showstopping issues so we moved forward with a TI cycle in Sept/Oct 2013 in order to encourage ovulation earlier in my cycle to help with egg quality. The result was another chemical pregnancy. Our RE recommended we move onto IVF with PGD because we must have a chromosome issue with our embryos. We did two ERs in Jan and Feb 2014 resulting in 4 chromosomally normal penguins. We transferred 1 in March resulted in a BFN and one in May which was another missed miscarriage. After my WTF, my RE recommended we enter into a banking program and get some quality embryos since I'm not getting any younger. Then we can either try again with me or pursue surrogacy.
That brings us to today. I'm currently recovering from a moderate case of OHSS as a result of ER #3. We switched to a lupron down reg protocol from an antagonist and got MUCH better results. We added 20 penguins to our "bank" but are still waiting on the PGD results from these embryos (we have 2 left from the earlier retrievals). Once we know how many are "normal" we will decide how to move forward. I think we will do at least one more FET with me before pursuing a surrogate. For now, we are between cycles until we clear up this OHSS and get the PGD results.
After everything we've been through, I am a little jaded by this whole process but I'm not ready to give up on my dream of having a biological family yet. Sorry this got so long!

@CRMhoney I'm sorry you are having such a shit day. I hope your numbers come down quickly but maybe it would be good if you let your body rest. I fought with my re about putting me off after my June cycle but I'm glad I did. Can you drink wine? Is that low in calories? I think vodka is too! Xo
We are about to start stimming for later this week IVF # 3, after IVF # 1 failed last November (cycle # 3 is lining up to be about the same timing as # 1 was), IVF # 2 was a CP in April and FET # 1 was a BFN in June. So far this cycle I have had a hysteroscopy and endometrial scrape, and am on levaquin, trental, coQ10, vitamin E with the hopes of improving uterine blood flow and decreasing inflammation.
Dx: Unexplained Infertility, probable endometriosis
Feb-April 2013: Femara + TI: BFN
May - September 2013: Follistim + Ovidrel + IUI#1-4 = BFN
IVF # 1 November 2013: transferred 1 perfect blast = BFN
IVF # 2 April 2014: Endo scrape, transferred 2 blasts = BFP!! (first ever!), CP

@zeynsom you are so welcome here! Sounds like you have a ton going on. I hope that working with dr. KK will help you!
I'll add you to the board tomorrow. I'm not home until 0300 and only have my cell.
Hi ladies- I'm another "not quite yet qualified to join you," but would like to if you will have me. I'm way beyond the chipper phase and could use y'all's expertise and encouragement from similarly situated people. If there is a better place for me, please let me know as I feel homeless right now.
Here's my story (most of which is in my siggy): 4 miscarriages in the last year, 2 failed IUI's, and my first IVF officially failed today. I retrieved 5 eggs Monday (after tracking 7 solid candidates), only 3 were mature, only 2 of those fertilized, they made it to Day 3 and I got the call today they stopped before the made it biopsy for PGS. So I've got nothing. Nothing.
