~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~
Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO's intolerance. Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~
1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing? We're ok. Fighting off the latest daycare virus. Being sick causes W's face to flare up so I can't tell if he's reacting to food. I had some bread that said "may contain soy" and the next day he had a smelly, mucousy poop. So I'm pretty sure the soy is bothering him. But his face didn't break out until the next day after he had some WCM for the first tine (which I think made him gassy) and spicy salmon. Poor baby is a mess. And I have a plugged duct.
I need to order more lecithin.
2. We're on to entrees for week 3 of our holiday recipe series. How about something for Thanksgiving? We are going low key this year and I think we will just roast a turkey breast seasoned with herbs. We eat that all the time. Maybe I'll brine it for extra juiciness.
3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share?Allergist still hasn't called me with final test results. It's been over a week since he had the blood draw. Would you call the dr yourself?
@mrscjmb9410
Both my boys were MPI as babies. So were three of my four nephews. My mom thinks I was as a baby.
But I do have friends that have one child that had it and one or more without it.
@afwifelife Are they always green?Your diet can cause green poo. So can how baby's gut digests certain solids if you'be intro'ed them. Green mucousy poo is what you really want to avoid.
2. We're on to entrees for week 3 of our holiday recipe series. How about something for Thanksgiving? We go to my mom's for Thanksgiving. She makes a roast turkey.
3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share? I'm wondering why DS had a green poop. We ate out at a diner Saturday night and they said there was no egg or dairy in what we ordered. If they messed up, could it have shown up less than 24 hours later? In the past it usually was day 2 and 3 for him.
@cdale86 we only avoid soy protein. Soy lecithin, oil, and flour are all okay for us. However I've heard of others who had to avoid all soy. Trial and error - you could avoid all of it for a few weeks then reintroduce the soys one at a time. Also gave you considered the blood could be from another food? A food journal can help you figure out if something else is bothering your LO. (Although you might already be doing this) That is how I realized my DS can't have eggs.
@rocknrollfriend I would definitely call the Dr if it were me. I'd be too curious not to. If you feel like a pain you could just apologize and blame it on nerves and ask when could you call back
2. We're on to entrees for week 3 of our holiday recipe series. How about something for Thanksgiving?
I'm not looking forward to Thanksgiving! We'll be with my in-laws, who are less understanding of breastfeeding/food intolerances. I'll probably end up making/bringing an entire alternate meal.
3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share?
1) Just returned from weight check. Ds is back close to the 25% growth curve that the Pedi thought he should be following. He is now taking 5 4oz bottles during the day plus nursing at night/early morning.
2) So far we have been able to sub rice milk/EB for the milk/butter in our meals so we haven't had to go searching for milk/soy free versions of our favorite meals.
3) I did find it annoying that WIC only allows cow milk and soy milk. They don't cover the other milk alternatives because they don't have enough protein in them. Not really helpful for moms breastfeeding MPSI babies. Though I can't complain too loud, because they are covering the $150 cost of 4 cans of Neocate/month for supplementing for ds2.

2. We are going places... I'm giving my mom some dairy free soy free butter substitute to cook with so I can have things!
3. @rocknrollfriend are these shinners? Once you mentioned it I feel like I can see them on DS. Poor baby -- I wonder what else he could be allergic to!
PS I'd call for results. Doctors offices always get behind and busy. So it wouldn't hurt to call.
@YellowLily2013 That's what happened to me to, nothing in the ingredients, just the "may contain". Boo. The dark circles under your LOs eyes do look a lot like what my DS has. I think it might just be from the MSPI, but I don't know for sure. They can also show up due to congestion from colds or teething, or from crying.
On to poop... To those wondering about when the diapers should clear up, it took us a long time. When I was clear of dairy and soy they became less green and mucousy, but still were smelly and just not quite "right'. It wasn't until I cut out eggs, peanuts, and wheat, at 7 mo old, that poop became more normal. @brideinsummer04 My DS has telltale poop within 1 day of me eating something, usually. @cdale86 I have had to avoid all soy, including oil and lecithin (I take sunflower lecithin for plugged ducts!). Some babies are more sensitive than others. I would try cutting all soy before anything else.
The allergist's nurse called me this morning, all tests were negative! I still want to talk to the doc about his face flaring up all the time, if I can do anything to treat that, so I'm waiting for her to call me back. @Earlybird725 Our visit was about 1 hr, but we didn't do a scratch test, which would have taken longer. We spent the hour discussing his history and symptoms, and learned he was dermatographic, and ordered blood tests. We went back another day for the blood tests (actually 2 days since he didn't have enough blood, poor baby). The first visit was fine, and I've heard lots of kids don't even notice the scratches, if that's what you end up doing. GL!

I have heard from other moms that they can just cut out major dairy and their LOs seem more comfortable. I don't know if that's necessarily MSPI or a mild form of it or maybe reflux related? But if she does better when you cut out dairy, and it's not that much of a burden on you, might as well do what works, right? Keep us posted on how you all are doing!
Hi there, I'm Samantha and a ftm to DD. She will be 9 weeks tomorrow. I've been dairy and beef free for five weeks after her doctor suspected a MPI because of green mucosy stools. I've been pretty careful about what I'm eating and have only had one accident with some dairy in salad dressing that I wasn't aware of. The same time i went dairy free, DD's doctor also put her on Zantac for reflux. Since she's been on that and I've been dairy free, her mood has certainly been better. I'm not sure if being dairy free is what helped her mood or the Zantac is. It's hard to determine since they happened at the same time. The problem is that she is still having green mucosy poops 99% of the time.
Yesterday I noticed she had some blood in her stool. I took her in to the doctor and was instructed to cut out chocolate, peanuts, citrus and strawberries. If that doesn't change anything, the next tier is wheat, soy, tree nuts, fish, shellfish and eggs. What I'm wondering is if I should just try and go soy free now?
Thank you in advance!
Hi gals! A little late to the party this week but I made it!
1. How are you doing? How is your LO doing? I'm doing well and so is she! Other than being backed up for 3 days then having a major blow out to the point we had to throw out her Jammies last night we are tons better. (That's going to lead me to a burning question)!
2. We're on to entrees for week 3 of our holiday recipe series. How about something for Thanksgiving? Here's a paleo cranberry sauce link:

3. Any other burning questions you'd like answered or experiences to share?
Two things: first, did anyone else have any experience with lactation cookies making their little one super gassy and backed up? She started getting like that a couple of days after I began eating the lactation cookies again and then barely passed any stools till last night with a MAJOR blow out. Normally her stool is a liquidy consistency, last night it was more like soft serve. Is that normal? I read thicker than peanut butter then worry but she's never had stool like that!
two: since I've gone dairy free (hidden and not) she's been doing well but I ate garlic toast that came with a salad absentmindedly Yesterday at lunch then realized it probably had butter on it. (Stupid me) she was super fussy at the boob last night and then had her blow out. Could that been from the butter? I didn't think it would be in my milk so fast nor did I think it would make her not like the taste! Or was that probably from being backed up from the cookies maybe? I haven't eaten anything out of my norm!
THANKS LADIES!

@rocknrollfriend-- I think it was definitely garlic that she doesn't like because I had white wine and olive oil garlic shrimp pasta for dinner the night before and leftovers for lunch. I'm pretty sure she hates it! Makes me sad cause I LOVE garlic... Typical Italian !!
