Parenting after a Loss

Rolling over

When did you little ones start rolling over?  Michael seems to have absolutely no interest in even attempting to roll over. Even when he is done with tummy time he'll yell for a bit and then put his head down and give me this I can't believe you have not flipped me over glare.

Re: Rolling over

  • i can totally empathize with how he feels.  i need to be rolled over these days too.  just sayin'.

  • Linc started rolling from tummy to back at 4.5 months.  It is pretty typical for babies to roll the first time between 3-6 months.

  • I feel waaaay better hearing this!  Allison couldn't care less about tummy time and rolling over.  She has no interest in it at all.  She'll tolerate tummy time for a little bit and then just start screaming.  I am so afraid she'll never roll over.  I was talking about this fear with a lady at work the other day and she reminded me that college applications do not ask how old the kid was when she rolled over.  She assured me that Allison will know how to roll over before college!
  • Gabe was like two and a half weeks (it scared the crap out of me!) when he first did tummy to back.  He was four months when he did back to tummy.  Penny has not rolled at all yet.  She likes tummy time alright, and when she's on her back she kinda wiggles to one side or the other but no rolling.
  • Josie hates tummy time [ which is weird because she only sleeps on her tummy], so we'd always put her on her back. What do you know..she rolled back to belly about a week ago and has been doing it consistently since!! A few days after her first back to belly roll, Dh found her on her back in her crib, so she had rolled over from her tummy to her back during her nap.

  • He just rolled belly to back for the first time last week and no one believes me because he hasn't done it since.
  • Around 4-5 months is about right.

Mario waited until 10 farking months.  There is no such thing as tummy time in Guatemala--quite the opposite--people keep their babies off the floor and strapped to them.  He HATED when we started doing it here--he would lie on his tummy, disgusted and with his brow all scrunched up.

I thought the kid was going to be massively delayed, but he started rolling, then crawling w/in a couple weeks.  Then cruising, then stood up one day and took 11 steps, out of the blue.

2 months is way early.  Don't worry at all.
