2nd Trimester

Anyone see a chiropractor? Tell me about it.....

My back has been killing me for 3weeks now.I get home and use the heating pad on it but today its gotten worse. It feels as if my ribs in the back are rolled under each other (like I am not sitting up straight enough so they curl under) and its killing me. 4 more months of this too, I am thinking I need to see a chiropractor.

Do they pop and adjust you? I am scared b/c I dont' want to become reliant on Chiro forever....I worry that if I start with popping and adjusting now my body will rely on the chiro. Tell me about your Chiro exp. TIA

  • I started seeing a chiro during my first pregnancy and will continue with this one.  It really helped with all the aches and pains!

  • It's a myth that once you start going to see a chiropractor, that you have to keep going. ?A good chiropractor will adjust you as much and as often as you need, but will also teach you the exercises and stretches that will help keep your body "adjusted" for life. ?

Now, that being said, your body is undergoing extreme changes between now and delivery, so you will probably want to continue seeing a chiropractor at least periodically throughout the rest of your pregnancy. ?My at-home stretches work, but it seems like every two weeks I have a new ailment that my chiro can help me with. ?:) ?

If you decide to see one, just be sure to call ahead and ask if the doctor is comfortable and has the equipment to treat a pregnant lady. ?HTH!

  • I have been seeing a chiro since I was 12.  for me, it's essential and it's a lovely experience that I couldn't live w/o.  I will say that it is not for everyone and every problem. Also you have to find the right one.  Mine is very gentle.  I have seen one (when mine was on vaca) who was quick and rough and it was NOT the experience I was looking for at all!

They will do xrays first and figure out where your problem areas are. Then adjustment will begin. My chiro has tables that I lay on first w/ rollers that stretch your back. It's like a mini massage-- it's nice!

I would do research, talk with one about your specific issues and see what you find out.  I am pretty sure that once you do it it is a lifetime commitment, unfortunately... But for me I'd rather not live in pain or take any kind of pain meds if I can help it. :)  GL! Any other ?'s just page me!

  • I was in the same boat as you - nervous to start going. ?But let me tell you, it is amazing! ?I was totally freaked out the first time she cracked my back - she kinda had to walk me through it! ?haha?

I kinda think that you *do* need to keep going though, because once you've felt your body aligned, you won't ever want to go back again! ?I haven't been since October, but I talked to my doctor and he okayed it so I'll be going back to my chiro on Friday to get my back adjusted and possibly my hips. ?

    ?

    I. ?can't. ?wait. ??

  • Like the others, I love going and have been for many  years.

If you choose not to go--do this one thing:  don't use only heat on your back or any part of you for that matter--always end on an ice or cold compress.  You want to reduce swelling to your muscles and ligaments to help with the soreness.  You won't find the complete relief you will with chiropractic care, but it will make a bit of difference.

  • i've never gone to a chiropractor but i was wondering if you've tried prenatal yoga.  that has really taught me to stretch and i haven't had one back issue (not to say i won't develop one later on).  but i figure if you are a bit tentative about going to a chiropractor maybe try something like this first just to see what happens.

Well said, Annie!  I'm a Chiropractic student and was about to post just about the exact same thing.  You saved me the typingSmile

That said, there's no better feeling than a really good adjustment.

  • I go all the time. I love it. I went before I got pregnant too. When you are walking around with all this extra weight, it takes a toll on your back more than you know. And you don't get addicted and sucked in. I am at the point now where I know when I need and adjustment and just go as needed.
