Babies: 0 - 3 Months

is a PNP/playard a necessity?

We never purchased a pack-n-play for DD as we live in a one level, 2BR, 1500sq. ft. condo... now that she is getting bigger and she'll start becoming more mobile, I'm wondering if we should get one.

We have a bouncer that she loves and the rainforest jumperoo and an exersaucer that we have yet to use... would those be sufficient?  Or is it easier to put them in a PNP with some toys?  We just don't have the room to have it out all the time... so I'm just weighing my options here.

Also, anyone have the Combi Jazz Play Yard Sport?  How is it?  I like the simplicity, price and looks of it and it has good reviews.... we don't need all the fancy extras.

  • Right now mine won't even sleep in the PNP, never has really, but I think the?play-yard?part will be helpful. Until he can climb out of it anyway.?

  • We used it a bunch when DS was just born, but haven't since he was about 2 months.  It has come in handy though when we've gone OOT overnight.  I have a feeling it's going to be more useful too when DS become more mobile, especially if we visit friends/family with homes that aren't baby-proof.  This way we can have an area for him to play and not worry about him getting into something he's not suppose to

  • We have the most basic Graco, less than $50 with a coupon from bru.  DD needed it when we traveled.  I would not buy one only to use it for containment, DD would have hated that.
  • We got one and have been putting her in it for naps during the day and only in her crib at night... mainly as some sort of routine to help differentiate between day time and night time.  I wouldn't say it's a necessity... not unless you travel a lot and need a place for her to sleep.  We figure ours will come in more handy when she stays overnight at Grandma's or when we travel later on.

  • We got one so DD could use the bassinet part when we brought her home.  We also used it as a changer in our room.  Now, it's downstairs in our solarium so she can nap on the main level if we needed/wanted.  We also take it to my parents house and to DH's sister's house when they're watching her so she's got a place to sleep.  I love ours.
  • We have one, but we travel a lot. We use it where ever we go; hotel rooms, grandparents, friends, etc. DS also shares his room with the guest room, so when we have guests we use the pnp in our room.?

  • I have one I love the changing table part and the bassinet part was awesome when she was newborn. I hope she will be down for using it for containment while folding laundry and stuff.
  • We have one in our bedroom until he starts to sleep in his crib. So far he hates sleeping in the bassinet part and sleeps with us instead so all we have used it for right now is the changing table part at night. During the day I change him in his room.

  • Hmm... we definitely don't need it for sleeping and it sounds like people don't really actually use it as a playard that often.  Maybe I'll rethink it... thanks!
