Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Please share your 12-month feeding schedule

With the transitioning to cow's milk and dropping one liquid feeding, DD's eating schedule is all screwed up. I feel like I'm constantly feeding her something or another but I'm not sure if she's getting too much or too little. I'm also not sure if she's well balanced enough because I've read conflicting things about how much/often they need certain food groups. Please share your feeding schedule (including milk, meals and snacks). Here's what our schedule has been for the past couple of days:

8:00 a.m. - bottle with 2 ounces cow's milk and 4 ounces formula

9:00 a.m. - breakfast (waffles + fruit or yogurt + oatmeal or fruit cereal bar or fruit + pancakes)

11:00 a.m. (or whenever up from nap) - snack of cheerios + fruit or organic Puffs + fruit or lil' Crunchies + fruit

12:30 p.m. - bottle with 2 ounces cow's milk and 4 ounces formula

1:00 p.m. - lunch consisting of some sort of finger food (like half a turkey sandwich, soy chicken nugget, quesadilla, etc.) + veggie + fruit

4:00 p.m. (or whenever up from nap) - snack of Goldfish or similar + veggie

6:30 p.m. - dinner of some sort of protein finger food + pasta or rice or bread + veggie + fruit

7:30 or 8:00 p.m. - bottle with 2 ounces cow's milk and 4 ounces of formula

Re: Please share your 12-month feeding schedule

  • 8 am - breakfast (grain and fruit) 6 oz milk

9 am - snack (crackers or something)

11 am - lunch (protein, veggie, fruit, grain) 6 oz milk

2 pm - snack (grain and fruit or dairy) 6 oz milk

5 pm - dinner (protein, veggie, grain) 6 oz milk

DS is in daycare, and eats all his meals there except dinner.  Obviously the type of food is subject to change, but this is the pattern.  For dinner I try to see what he hasn't had enough of or too much of and decide what to feed him.  There's usually more dairy in there somewhere, like cheese.  But you get the idea.  He goes to bed 6:30-7, so his 5:00 milk is the last thing he gets.  And we give his milk in a sippy, after he's done eating.

If I were you I'd start giving her milk and meals at the same time.  I know that wasn't the idea when we started solids with our babies, but you have to change your thinking after they turn 1.

  • Yeah, I know I need to get her to drink her milk with her meals/snacks. However, the transition to a sippy has been a nightmare so right now I'm just focusing my energy on getting her 100% on milk and then getting her to sippy. Once that is accomplished, I'll move the milk to being with meals/snacks.

  • Why not just give her the bottle after her meals?

  • 8- breakfast with a sippy of milk (she drink the sippy for 2 hours or so)

    10 30- snack

    1- lunch with water

    3 30- snack

6- dinner with sippy of milk (that she drink over an hour or so)

She drinks water if she is thirsty in the afternoon or in the middle of the night. No more bottles of us, but I never did see the big hurry to get them off of it by 12 months.

  • Hi fellow boxer Mommy!  Here is our schedule.  We've been off bottles for a few weeks now.

7:30 - cereal made with milk, fruit, toast and 2-3 oz. of milk in sippy

10ish - snack (fruit, crackers, etc.)

noon - Whatever I'm having for lunch  (ex. half sandwich, yogurt, fruit and/or veggie plus 3-4 oz. of milk)

    3ish - snack

5 - dinner with whatever we're having and 4 oz. milk

7:30 - 4-6 oz sippy of warm milk

  • 9-10am: Sippy of whole milk with cheerios, toast, etc.

11-12pm: Lunch (usually whatever DS and I are eating) and a sippy of milk

    Naptime from 12:30 to 2-3pm

After her nap she'll have a snack of graham crackers or fruit and a sippy of half water, half juice.

6pm: Dinner with a sippy of milk

In the evening we usually refill her milk sippy about an hour before she goes to bed (9pm).  Sometimes she finishes it, sometimes she doesn't.

If she's hungry, she lets us know.

  • We're nearly off bottles now for my DD, so she gets sippy cup of milk.  She had the same schedule before she was on whole milk, but had a bottle of formula.  My DS is also on the same schedule and doesn't understand the sippy yet plus he only gets juice or water in the sippy.  He gets the breast or a bottle of breastmilk at the times my DD gets milk.

    7 am - 4-6 oz sippy milk

8 am - Breakfast (yogurt with fruit and baby cereal mixed, cereal bars, waffles, toast, or oatmeal)

    9:30 am - 4-6 oz sippy milk (nap 10-11:30)

11:30 - lunch (protein, fruit, veggie, grain), sippy water or juice

1:30 - 4-6 oz sippy milk and snack (craisins, puffs, cheerios, or fruit); (nap 2-4)

4:30 - dinner (protein, veggie, grain), sippy of water or juice

6:45 - 6 oz of warmed half breastmilk/half whole milk before bed (7 pm)
