I am going to the doctor in an hour. We find out if we definitely have a blighted ovum. We thought Monday was the day, but since my HCG Levels are up to 77,000 he decided to wait another couple of days (ugh!) I just want this to be over!
For those who have had a blighted ovum before, did you do the DNC? Were you ever worried that you "pulled the trigger" took quick and you may see a heartbeat eventually? I read way too much on misdiagnosed miscarriages.
Re: Blighted Ovum-find out today
I'm sorry that you're going through this. I hope you get great news today!
I had a b/o in July. I did opt for the D & E. I was told I could m/c naturally (which could take up to 4 weeks) or I could have a D & E. I didn't want to wait to m/c naturally. I wanted to have closure very quickly. I didn't want to be out and about and start the process of the m/c when I could surgically have the tissue removed. I'm glad that I chose to have the D & E. That was the easiest aspect of the whole m/c.
I never even thought about deciding too quickly to end the pg. They did one u/s and saw no embryo and the gestational sac was also measuring like a week behind. They waited one full week, repeated the u/s and the sac hadn't grown and there was still no embryo. I have always felt comfortable with my decision.
Again, I'm so sorry that you're experiencing this. I hope you get wonderful news!
Hi,
I really hope that your doctor appt goes well.
I have a BO and have decided to wait it out. I know it won't be easy but I figure that there is a reason for this season in my life and perhaps I need to use this time to wait on the Lord and find the meaning behind all of this before we move forward.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I read so much on misdiagnosed miscarriages too in hopes to have a baby inside instead of a b/o.
Unfortunatly, mine was a b/o and i opted for the d&e. They did an ultrasound and waited 2 more weeks after to do another to confirm the suspicions. Once it was confirmed, we scheduled the procedure.
I am praying that when you go to your appointment they see a little one's heart beating away.
Please keep us updated.
My first m/c was a BO and I decided to have the D&E. My body was showing no signs of M/C ( I was 9w1d), and I didn't want to wait it out and have the m/c start at work, etc...I preferred to be in control of it. I had also read lots of stories about not m/cing everything and ending up with a D&E anyways, and I didn't want to take that chance. It was very easy, and I felt better as soon as I left the hospital- felt like I could look ahead to TTC again, it was closure.
As far as waiting, I had had bleeding, spotting, etc thru the whole pg, so I had a feeling it wasn't good. Also, my HCG's at 6w were 15k, then 20k, then 25k...not doubling, but increasing. The Dr. had no concerns about this at all, but in hindsight I should have pushed. 77k is high, though, so you never know!
how far along are you?
I felt the same way because my HCG levels were so high and the symptoms were stll very strong. But we were already at 9 weeks and there still wasn't a hb and the baby had already stopped growing. I am sorry you are going through this.
For my BO I ended up bleeding a week after it was diagnosed so we didn't have do to D&C.
If given a choice I would probably wait a little before "pulling the trigger" as you say JUST in case. But there's also a fine line of how much a woman can take. At least with a D&C it's over with after the procedure. When I passed the tissue naturally it took a good two weeks before I stopped bleeding and that was an emotional torture.
GL with whatever you decide!
