I have PPD

I went to the doctor today for several things and she confirmed what I have been thinking... I have PPD.  I am posting this because I am trying not to be ashamed of it.  I know that there is no reason to but for some reason I feel that it is brushed under the rug and not really spoken of.  She prescribed some meds (I think it is Celexa).  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: I have PPD

  • PPD is definitely nothing to be ashamed of!  One of my friends had PPD and took medication for it as well. She said she went from feeling like an emotional disaster to feeling completely normal again. I don't know much about Celexa, but I can tell you with medications in general sometimes you have to try different doses or medications before you find the one that works for you. In other words, if you're not happy with it....don't be afraid to say something!

I hope you feel better soon!

  • Please don't feel ashamed! It takes a strong woman to admit when something is wrong, especially with our bodies. We try so hard to take care of others (and in your case, TWO others!) that it's easy to forget about us.

I'm sorry I can't offer any advice about PPD or Celexa...just take one day at a time. Good luck!
  • I don't have any experience with Celexa, but I'm taking Zoloft now for depression.  I didn't want to take any medication at first, but I feel better now that I started it.

    Good luck!

  • Nothing to be ashamed of.  Good for you for having the courage to do something about it.  If you wouldn't mind sending me an email, I'd really appreciate it (becsunshine at hotmail dot com).

  • Definitely nothing to be ashamed of!  You wouldn't try to hide a cast, no difference here. I don't have any advice, just offering support :D Too many women struggle with it and don't do anything about it becuase they are ashamed.  Good for you for not doing that to yourself!

  • I'm from the Dallastown area so if you ever feel like setting up a playdate please email me rsweethart@aol.com.  I know your twins are young but sometimes getting out of the house and interacting with other adults helps me feel normal.

Good luck and hang in there!

  • I wanted to say, I'm glad you spoke to your doctor. I have no experience with the drug, but I hope it works for you.

You have no reason to be ashamed at all.

    *hugs*

  • I don't have any experience with it but I 've heard it's very common.  It's good that you recognize it and got some help with it.  I'm sure it's tough especially since you have twice as much to deal with!!
  • I will be thinking of you and hoping that you are feeling better soon.  Although I don't have personal experience, I've worked with clients who have dealt with PPD.  I've witnessed many of them feeling like themselves again after seeking help and medication.  I'm glad that you posted about it.  Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

  • I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with this, but I think it's wonderful that you are speaking out...and that you sought help for yourself.  That is a great step forward.  Thinking of you....

Also, I agree with previous posters....if it's possible to get out and about with the little ones, I think that helps tremendously.  IMaybe we could play a playdate down your way soon.

  • I totally agree with everyone else and that it is nothing to be ashamed of.  Good for you in talking to your doctor to take the right steps to correct it.  Good luck and keep us posted.  ((hugs))
  • I don't have any experience of advice, but I just wanted to say that you're right that it's nothing to be ashamed of, and I'll offer any support I can.   Good for you for getting help and taking care of yourself.
  • I, too, wanted to offer my support. Let us know if there's anything we can do.
  • I am so glad that you spoke with your doctor and he/she could help you with a plan.  Do not feel ashamed, many women go through this.  I will be thinking about you.  Yes, maybe we can have a play date your way.
  • Hi I just wanted to tell you that I suffered from PPD as well. It was really bad when I went back to work full-time. But I am much better now and it will get better for you too. It really helped me to get out of the house do things with adults. I live in York too so if you ever want a to plan a playdate let me know. Lydia is always looking for new friends and so is her Mom!
