When (if at all) did you switch from a 3 hour feeding schedule to a 4? We had an appointment with our pedi this morning and she said it was fine to do if they're ok with it and they seem fine with it today... my only question is how we reschedule the whole day/routine that I've gotten into with feeding and naps... they'll need to take longer naps to get the same number of hours of sleep or else nap twice in one feeding period. Not sure how that's going to work.
Also we're thinking of starting cereal... does that go at the same time as a regular feeding or in addition to them? I need to call the doctor back because I forgot to ask a couple of my questions but I figured I'd see what you all think first ![]()
Re: Going from 3 to 4 hours?
We followed the cues of our girls when switching to a 4 hour feeding schedule. We have been very lucky/blessed with our girls adjusting. We feed and try to play/have activity right after until they get fussy or show they are tired. Then we let them sleep however long they want. We do wake them if it is time for their next feeding though. They have been on a 4 hour schedule since about 2-2 1/2 months.
We give solids as an extra snack in between their 3rd and 4th bottle, right before their bath. They still get the same amount of formula though; about 26-28oz every day.
Our pediatrician said that we should keep on every 3 hours during the day until they are regularly sleeping through the night, because you want them to get their calories during the day. So we did that, and even when they were sleeping through the night at around 4 months we didn't spread out the day feedings until around 8 months.
