I have PPD....

I am sure that it is no surprise with what I have been posting lately but I went to my GP today and when she asked me I just started crying.... she prescribed Celexa (I think that is the name).  Then this is the part that I kinda had to laugh at ... she said that I should go to counseling and that it is expensive and that I should go away for the weekend.... what world is she living in?  She is very nice but kinda nieve (sp?) to think that I would be able to just go away for a weekend... ha.  thanks for all the responses to previous posts!

  • I understand.  My posts haven't been very positive lately either!  I am glad your dr helped you!
  • Hang in there!  I'm glad you're getting treatment, and the Celexa should help soon (although don't be surprised if it takes a few days to kick in).  Check your insurance, though-- yes, "counseling" (for PPD, I would call it "therapy") is expensive if you pay out of pocket, but most medical insurance will pay for 10-20 sessions and you might find that helpful in addition to the meds.
  • hope you feel better soon :) Celexa is a great great med. I have seen it do wonders for ppl I know. Give it a few weeks to kick in.

  • I hope this medication works for you and you get to feeling like yourself real soon!

  •  I had PPD as well. With time and medication....and SLEEP.......it has gotten way way way WAY better. Just want to wish you all the best!
