Giving Toddler's Age in Months...I just don't get it

I'm pretty "to each her own" but I find it bizarre when people say their 2 or 3 year old is however many months.  I mean really, once your kid is one, s/he is a year-old.  I can *kinda* justify 18 months but anything much beyond that is just semantics--and I'm not sure I get the reasoning.  I just saw a post on a msg board of a local group I belong to where someone was looking for a stroller for their 30-month old...um your two and half year-old?

  • Yeah, 30 month old does sound weird. After DD turns 2 I don't think I'll use the months anymore, maybe even before then.

  • I do get the 18 month thing but yeah, 30 month seems weird... I get being more particular about halves or even quarters but still... Why not say 2.5 year old or whatnot?

Though I haven't really BTDT yet so perhaps there's something I'm missing...

  • At BRU today, they had Carters sweaters and the tags said "48 months".  I swear
  • I can see your point. I can actually see using months up until 2yrs though. It doesn't sound odd to me to hear "my 22 month old" for some reason.
  • Up to 2 I can see, but after that, weird.

Oh, and I've seen the 48 month clothes at BRU and also thought that very odd.

  • yeah, I think 18 should probably be the cutoff.

I just shot water through my nose! LMAO!

  • As I get older, I think I'm going to start referring to myself in months rather than years... although 423 months doesn't sound much better than 36...
