How does this testing work? We suspect Nick may have seasonal allergies because his eyes were pouring water and he was sneezing like crazy for a few days last week, but when we took him in, the pedi said she doubted it was allergies and had him tested for RSV (he was negative). I'm still not convinced he doesn't have allergies like his dad. Did you just ask for a test? Is it only for food allergies?
I am not sure. I know they will do a scratch test for food allergies. I am not sure at this age if they are too young to be tested for other enviromental allergies. I did ask for the test and we are taking her to a specialist. We go today.
If she test negative it could be that she has an intolerance which doesn't show up on the test. The only way to see if its an intolerence is to cut the food out of their diet and see if they get better. Since they can't do allergy tests before a year we know that DS has an intolerance to milk and soy because of his bloody stools. Good luck!!

We did this a little over a month ago - scratch test for food and environmental allergens. They just don't do everything that they do on adults, but there were things like House Dust, Bermuda Grass, etc. The Allergist said that DCs are more common to copy mom as far as allergies go, but you never know, I guess. We have an HMO plan so we had to get a referral - otherwise, you would just call an Allergy specialist.
We go on Friday for dd's allergy test. Her's will be a blood draw instead of the scratch test though as our pedi said that a scratch test wouldn't be accurate at her age. She will be test for several food and environmental allergies.
DD had a reaction way back at 6 months to Barley cereal. I never gave it to her again, because she ended up with hives EVERYWHERE! When she went for the scratch test right before Christmas it was neg. We were supposed to go in for an actual 'taste test' yesterday, but we were both sick, so we didn't go. My allergist did say that babies often outgrow their allergies.
They usually only test for what you suspect they could have. They tested DD for dogs because she gets hives when the dog licks her face (that was positive).
I don't know that I'd rush to the allergist for seasonal allergies. There really isn't much you can do for them. My allergist said that they really only like to suggest Benadryl for babies in real emergency situations.
