Pregnant after a Loss

Ouch! Lower Back Pain??

I had this all day yesterday, thought I had slept on it wrong -- so came home after work and laid on a heating pad for 30 minutes and went to bed early.  Well, this morning my back is still hurting/aching.  It is right in the small of my back -- it feels like I tweaked it.  Is this a pregnancy thing?   And if so, what did you do to relieve it?  I am not use to back pain at all!  Crying

Re: Ouch! Lower Back Pain??

  • I have been having lots of back pain the last two weeks.  My chiropractor told me that you should actually not apply heat when you have back pain because it can cause even more inflammation.  She said ice is better (I learned this the hard way after using a hot water bottle on my back, and then it got worse).  So far, I have found that a good night's sleep takes care of my back pain.  If it still hurts tonight, try ice and see if that helps.

  • I am totally with you!!!

Although with me, I expected it. I had a back injury at work last year, and was told flat out it would re emerge when I became pregnant.

Supposedly in the first tri, back pain is caused by the hormones in our system. They relax and mess with ligaments and things in our back.

It's also normal if it goes into your buttocks, this is what mine does. It feels like someone is walking with me all day squeezing my right cheek haha!

I hope you feel better soon :) Try alternating Ice and Heat, and you could also look up stretches for the back online :)?

  • I've had this on and off the past 2 weeks.  My lower back just aches and I never get back pain.  It's from all the hormones your body is producing, it's pretty common in early pregnancy.  Laying flat on my back helps it feel better.  Can't do that at work though!  At work, I will go into the big stall in the bathroom and do some standing stretches, that seems to provide temporary relief.
  • Mine has eased up, but I remember it hurting pretty badly right around my 8 week appt.  It felt good to rub my back where it hurt.  Other than that, I just lived with it.
