So Tasty, So Yummy

Re: Poll #3

  • I stay home, we have MDO 2 days a week (because our nanny quit) and we have a house keeper..  I do have "another job"...  but it's not full time.. Honestly, I need the help for my personal sanity...
  • Loading the player...
  • If money is not an issue...then HECK YEAH!  I see nothing wrong with having an extra set of hands to help you out when you just need that break.  It doesn't make me any less of a mom for wanting my time away to be happy and an even better mom when I'm happy!

  • I said no, but if you took away MDO that might be different. or if the mother's helper was a maid.

  • I'd love to have a regular babysitter for when I need a break, and someone to clean house and do laundry, but not someone at the house with us, KWIM?  I think I'd feel weird.
  • i have a p/t nanny and it's the best thing i ever did. it's the only reason i am still sane and still home

Ditto this, except for the nanny quitting part.

  • I'd rather have someone to help with the housework, but she'd be Mary freakin Poppins to me if she'd babysit every once the while as well.
  • Not a nanny, but definitely a full time housekeeper. Taking care of G and this next baby would be so much easier if I did not have to do housework.
  • I grew up with a housekeeper at our house everyday although my mom was technically a SAHM.  I sure didn't feel like she was a SAHM because she was ALWAYS playing tennis at the country clubs - gone.  I'm not sure I could find a good balance with in-home help, but I'd definitely use a MDO program once a week.  I'd also put the kiddos in preschool starting at two-and-a-half.
  • I said yes, but I wasn't thinking fulltime. But someone to help out a couple days a  week or MDO is a great thing. Actually, I think I'd prefer MDO even if I could afford a nanny/helper just because Eloise gets to play with other kids that way.

  • I stay at home but voted No for the Mother's Helper, just b/c I feel as though it would be one more person for me to manage.  We have a housekeeping team that comes once a week and the girls go to MDO 1x per week, and my older daughter has 2 long days a week at preschool.

That said, if we had three children I'd totally go for the Mother's Helper/Nanny.  I think I can manage two by myself but not three.

  • I voted no only because I would still put her in MDO.  I don't think I would hire a nanny, but would certainly still spend the money to put her in MDO.  It's necessary for me as a mom to have some sanity, and I love that she gets socialized and gets to play with other kiddos and her teachers.

  • Heck ya!  I would use her more for cleaning and cooking.  Then to babysit when I wanted to get out and about.
  • Probably not full time, but maybe certain days of the week, especially if we have more than one child.

    My thoughts exactly.

this is what i do. she used to watch turtle 2 days a week and clean one. now she watches him one day, cleans one day and he goes to MDO two days. when #2 comes, we'll have her 3 days again, one day with turtle, one day with Twosey and one day to clean.

i feel like if you've said no to this, you probably have family near by. if i hadn't had a nanny (since most MDO don't accept kids until 12 mos or more) i never would have had a chance to do anything like go to the dentist since there is no one here to watch Turtle unless we pay someone. even things like haircuts would be hard b/c that leaves on saturdays and we like to spend those days as a family, not me off on baby free errands...

I disagree and agree, I said no, have no family nearby and until Addie was 18 months didn't have a husband home regularly (I hired a babysitter if I needed haircut or other stuff). I did vote no, but I think it depends on the age. I think Addie was easier when she was younger, if there was no MDO at this age I would def hire help. and at any age I would love to have a cleaning lady.
