xpNBR: Computer Help Please, VERY VERY NEEDED!

To Start: I have vistas

I emailed myself from work a spreasheet, I opened it and worked on it at home for the whole weekend.  I KNOW that I hit save almost every time I worked on it because I would add something and then walk away.  Well today it is no where to be found in my computer AT ALL.  I am thinking I forgot to save it in documents, but when I search for the title nothing comes up, when I search only xls. nothing comes up.  I am freaking out, I spent 20 hours on this!!  When I open the email and try to save the item again without choosing a location this is the path that I get:
Soter/appdata/local/microsoft/windows/temp./low/content/then random numbers.

When I go back to see if it is in any of those, they are all empty.  It doesn't show up in excell as a recent doc.  WTF!!!!

TIA wth a big smoochy kiss!

  • I wish DH was home because he's in IT... did you check your Temp Files folder.  Did you save it to your Desktop or did you keep saving it to the email file by mistake?  Don't panic, I would guess it has to be there somewhere... hopefully someone else pipes up with some ideas.

I was just going to say this. Did you save it in the email when you opened it? If you did then it only saved to the email, and not the computer.?

  • If you have vista, do you have the newest version of excel? All of the new office files are saved with an extension .xlsx or .docx for Word. Try searching for that file extension .xlsx

Thanks, I just tried this.  I have the old .xls version on both computers though because I didn't spring for the new one :)

I really really appreciate all the ideas, I am trying them all!

  • I am not sure about vista but I know XP used to have a 'Recent Documents' section in the start up menu, does Vista have that? If so is your document listed there?

Or if you open excel is there a 'recently/previously opened'  option under the file menu?
