I would have told that doctor off. I was once told by an OB that I was over weight, I looked at her and said "really, I could have swore I was a size 2, but thanks for letting me know" You are a better woman than I
I hope the shots do their trick and help you get back to TTC quickly! But I can't believe what an asshat the OB was. Do you ever have to see him again or was it a one time visit with him? If he's your reg OB, I would definitely change, and let him know why!
Hopefully just a one-time thing. I'll go back for b/w Thursday and Monday but I won't see him (just get the lab order). If the numbers aren't falling correctly, then I'll have to see him again.
The only concern now is that I'd heard before that I'd have to take 3 months off ttc with methotrexate and he said no (but I am too fat to ttc anyway in his world). But a couple of people have now said that is wrong and I should get a second opinion.
Fabulous.

I am glad there is an end to your current issue, but I cannot believe that Dr! I am just in shock that a professional man like a Dr would be so rude. I imagine he failed the part on bedside manner in med school

after my metho shot i was told we would have to wait 3 months- originally i said ok because i thought i would have insurance & everything would be fine. but after i found out i was going to lose my insurance i freaked- it had been only 2 months & i needed to start another cycle ASAP.
so- the RE said he would do it as long as i spoke w/a Genetics Counselor. so i made an appts and she said that 2 months was MORE than sufficient- in FACT, the methotrexate actually leaves your body within hours to days- not weeks. She said that we would have probably been fine to start TTC again within a couple weeks after the shot. She said that because there is a risk of birth defect & because OB's/RE's want to avoid being sued- they are required to tell their clients to wait 3 months- but in all actuallity it's not needed.
the only thing that women who TTC before the 3 month period should beef up on is Folic Acid. Methotrexate is a cancer drug so it strips the body of things like folic acid & immunity & such. so if you're going to TTC within a months time or so, you really need to take extra Folic Acid so that your body can build it back up- Folic Acid is what helps reduce the risk of spina bifida so it's very important.
so all in all- her opinion was for women to wait about 1 cycle after a methotrexate shot (assuming that your levels have dropped) simply because during that time you should start taking folic acid & your prenatals once the 2 week limitation has passed (i think you have to refrain for a couple weeks).
so yeah- blargh. i'm suprised you got your shot in your arm- i got mine in the butt i also only got 1 shot (split into 2 doses) i think it's based on height/weight. if you have to get another shot because the 1st one isn't enough- then your doc will tell you to wait 6 months- but again- that's not really needed. you would probably be fine with about 1-2 cycles.
God bless you tbird! That was starting to worry me. The 2 shots was because of dosing for my height/weight (the first thing he said when he brought them in was that I needed 2 for my size). He said he's only had to do more than 1 dose twice, so I'm too worried.
You have definitely relieved me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

OK, my jaw dropped for most of it, but when I got to the thing about the cheeseburgers I got PISSED. What a flaming dickhead. If I were you, I'd make lots and lots of calls. Call the head of his department, the head of his health system, etc. Just be syrupy sweet and say, I feel that it's my responsibility to let you know how inappropriately I was treated--is now a good time to discuss it?
This guy has a boss or bosses, just like everyone else, and I guarantee it, they care to know about the service that the patients in their care are receiving from their physicians. Health care is a business in this country. #1) Never, ever see this guy again. #2) Make sure his boss knows what happened.

no problem! and what it sounds like is you only got 1 shot- but the dose was a bit larger because of heigh/weight- which still really only ='s 1 shot. so that's good!
also- my levels went down SUPER fast with the metho- my levels were in the 700+ range & within 3 weeks they were at 0 and i had had a period.
also- i only had minimal cramping & i was a little tired. all in all it was like a heavy period.
Wow...I'm sorry your doctor treated you that way. That's completely unacceptable. I don't know how you didn't slug the guy. I'm just floored...

Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
Just now catching up on this. Sounds like you had a rough day. I hope that the shot does the trick so that you can get back to TTC. And I hope you don't have to see that jerk of a doctor again.

What an ass!
I know t.bird had the metho shot so you may want to page her and see what her dr. told her. I believe it was not to get pregnant for 3 months.
My jaw is literally on my desk. I can not BELIEVE the nerve of your OB.
I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this.

Your doctor was unproffessional and just plain rude. It's incredible that he could jump to such conclusions so easily.
I think you should find a new OB, definitely. That was completely uncalled for.
I am so sorry that you are having to go through this right now.
You poor thing, because you haven't been through enough. Jerkwad.
