That isn't bad...it's understandable. It is when DD's name gets spelt Loren instead of Lauren or when mine gets spelt Kristine or Krystyne instead of Christine that it drives me nuts.
The newborn pic is adoreable.... have you tried correcting her? It might be an unusual spelling, but it is her name, and S-MIL should respect that. I'm not sure what to do about it, really... after 5 years of marriage my S-MIL still spells *MY* name wrong.

The funny thing, a few months ago she actually asked and said "Do you spell it Rylee, I always forget" fine whatever... and this morning spelled it Riley... I really don't care, at least she has the name right....
yeah you can't really be angry when its you that made up your own spelling.
Oh please, whatever Punk, can't you just be... oh.... nice?
And FYI - tell then to all the other Rylee's on the board too...
well don't expect people to just remember that you spell it different. that was all I meant - especially those our parent's age when names were not as complicated.
Okay, I'm sorry, but you lose all your rights to be upset about how someone spells your daughter's name when you make up words yourself. Spelled, not "spelt."

So quick to judge... I would tell you what she named/spelled her daughters names, but I won't... but really, not commen. Very beautiful names, but one is NOT commen.
I feel ya. I HATE hate hate it when people spell my name wrong and all they do is add an "E" at the end. I've started correcting people. Maybe have DH correct her?
I also hate it when the name is pronounced wrong. Alaina is "ALAYNA" not "Alaw-na".
Just tell her how you do spell it, then let it go. People mess up Alaina all the time, and it's the most popular/normal spelling of it.
Uhh... even said in the OP, that I don't care. She will figure it out. Its not the first time, nor will it be the last. Not a battle I want to fight. Really.

LOL well at least you are "okay" with it. I have totally succumb to the fact that every day i spell my childrens' names out lol.
You can spell a name however you want to spell it. Maybe your spelling is unusual to some, but it is what you decided on. She is family and should know the right spelling. Acceptable from distant relatives and distant friends, maybe. Not acceptable from closer family like this. Would drive me crazy too!!!

That would annoy me too but I still have very close friends and family spell my name wrong, so it happens when there's more that one spelling...she probably just spells it phonetically in her head.
I had a woman at work call my son "Mario" and when I said "Oh, it's Marino" she said "what's the difference?" LOL.
I guess that would annoy me, but I agree with most of the other posters. You did chose an uncommon spelling, so I'd try to let it go a little.
If she got the name totally wrong (like the previous poster, who said her MIL calls her son "Noah" when his name is "Jonah"), that's a different story. My daughter is named Clara Valerie. MIL and SIL told everyone in the family that her name was Claire Elizabeth for weeks after she was born. I have no idea where they got that from.
It wouldn't bother (and doesn't) me if someone who is not close to us spells DD's name wrong (which is not a made up spelling, it's the Irish spelling), but it drives me nuts when my Grandmother does it. When Ruari was born she made my mom write it out for her...she seems to have lost that paper, and now has made up a spelling. Not a big deal, but she always puts her names in books etc.
Forgive me, but she IS family, and this is her granddaughter... she should know the spelling after 9 months. And honestly, I don't think its all that made up. There are quite a few "Rylee's" on this board. Made up is making up a spelling not even in a baby name book... its in there.
Eh, it can be irritating. I never imagined I'd have issues with DS's name, but apparently the -en spelling is more popular than the -an spelling (which is actually the "correct" spelling). I'm constantly correcting people.

Hum. I would be pissed. It isn't the point that you spelled it differently than what some people consider the true spelling should be, but if she is a 'grandma' then she should be able to keep it straight!
My mother mispells my name every time she writes it. Not Falce. False. Cause that's how it's spelled.
Doesn't mean she's an uncaring shrew. Only means that people's brains tend to grope for the spelling that makes sense. Rylee may be gaining in popularity, but Riley or Reilly are still the more common spellings.
FWIW, be glad she even realizes what her name is. My grandma can never remember my cousin's son's name. Poor Brody hears Brandon, Brendan, Brogan, Brady and Grady before she gets down to his name. At least she realizes this though, and usually defaults to "sweetheart."

Thats bad... grandma-in-law actually told my SIL that she did not like the name they chose for their DD (morgan) and said she would call her megan. Not even kidding.

True. But after 9 months she should have a clue.
That said of a girl who named her daughter Adrien. (which is not common-but not unheard of) Everyone has pretty much figured this one out.

Yup.
Its like when people name their babies Mikailleya and get upset when you spell it "wrong."
Yes... "wrong."

Yeah, my name is Kali and my grandmom used to write KAYLEIGH on cards when I was a baby. She also signed things "Mrs. Herlastname" for awhile... lol.
meh.
DS name is Ethan. Easy right? DH's grandmother calles him "Rohit"
I have no explanation...
DD's great grandmother calls her Allie. Some actually corrected her the other day, but she kept calling her that anyway.
She's 88 years old. Guess she can call her whatever she wants.
You didn't see this coming when you posted? Really??
Its one letter off... Hardly "worse".
