Alabama Babies

contemplating/can't decide

Ok, so originally I thought about getting off BCP in March.  Now I'm thinking (and dr said it's totally up to me) that it would be better to stop now to allow my body to get used to it.  I've been on BCP since I was 17!!!!  I've had to be for health reasons.  I just think it will help me get used to it and understand things better, etc.

What did everyone else do, anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, if you want to share that is.....

I know everyone is different.  I just finished my pack of BCP this wknd so I need to decide today - great timing, huh?  Stick out tongue

Re: contemplating/can't decide

  • I say go for it, because you never know how quickly or slowly it may happen.  I was also on BCP since I was about 17, and ran out of pills, so just decided to see what happened.  I got PG my second month off, which really suprised me b/c I thought it would take a lot longer.

  • It couldn't hurt to go ahead and get off of it and just see what happens. Or, you could do other things to prevent until March if you wanted. (I went off BC after our wedding in '06, and just used other methods to prevent until we were ready to TTC).

  • yeah, we HAVE to wait til March b/c of Brad's work schedule (I know that sounds silly to some but I HAVE to work around football since that's a HUGE part of his job), so we would have about 6 mos to work with.  Historically in my family women get pg w/in about 1-3 months.

So, like you were saying Lydia, would just have to use other forms of birth control until then.  Probably will just do that to allow my body to adjust, esp w/my migraines and all.

    Thanks girls!!!

  • I would go off sooner than later - let those hormones work their way out of your system.  If it happens, it happens.

    Good luck! yay!

  • well Brad and I had somewhat talked about it this weekend, so I mentioned it in our "daily email" we send to each other (b/c as I mentioned I'd have to get the Rx today!!!) and he said, save the $5 and we'll go from here and talk about it more tonight.  So there you have it - no more BCP.  wow.

  • Yay to no more BCP!
  • I say go for it.  Being on birth control for many years- it might take several months to get out of your system..or it could just take a couple.  But I do agree that it's better for your body to adjust, etc.  Good luck!
  • I was going to say to go ahead, but I think you already decided that! Good luck!
  • I got off of BCP in January, and got pg in May.  We decided for me to get off then just to give my hormones time to run their course, and get the BCP "stuff" out of me completely.

Yea for your message from DH, though!!  How exciting for you that your time is beginning.

FYI DH and I used charting to prevent pregnancy once I got off of BCP.
