I gave Layna rice cereal for the first time on Saturday - weeee! She loved it, kept opening her mouth for the spoon. I don't think she actually swallowed much of it, she would let it sit in her mouth for a minute then it would all trickle out
Then Saturday night - about 6 hours later - I notice a rash around her jawline and neck. It was pretty much gone by yesterday morning, and today there is just a few little red bumps left. Would you think its the cereal? She's also drooling a LOT but it seems highly coincindental that it happened the same day that we tried something new.
I'm calling the doctor's office as soon as they open, but wondered if anyone had any ideas. I've been googling my little heart out and also found comments about Gerber cereal containing soy and lactose, which people think caused their own babies rashes.
Re: Rash after cereal?
The only thing you can really do it is not give it for a good week or two then try again and see if it happens again. You could also get a different brand with less additives like HappyBaby (just to see if it would help!!)
Good luck!
Unless you've been using lactose free formula, then I doubt it is lactose in the cereal that is causing the rash (it's the second listed ingredient in most formulas, so you would have seen a rash long before the cereal). I haven't heard of soy being a common allergen, but who knows?
Definitely cut out the cereal until you have more info, but it's probably something else in there- not the lactose (which coincidentally isn't a listed ingredient on the way too old left over can that I have in my pantry that needs to be thrown out).
