Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you put your baby to bed drowsy...

at what age did this work for you? DS is 14 weeks old and while I really would love for him to be able to go to sleep on his own, it just doesn't seem to happen. We have to wait until he is dead asleep before even attempting to move him or he wakes up.?

Re: If you put your baby to bed drowsy...

  • I can ONLY do this in his swing - and that's because he looks at the bear mobile and then as he swings he gets more and more sleepy and konks out.  So I guess I'm no help!  Been able to do it for about 2 weeks.
    Wheee!

  • It happens once in a blue moon. ?One time I even laid him down wide awake and he went right to bed. ?Usually that's not the case though.
  • Wow, this post just made me realize how lucky we are. We have put DS down drowsy since he was born and we have never had a problem. He might get up 6 times a night to eat, but at least we've got this going for us. :)
  • for us the fisher price aquarium in her crib sometimes works & the vibration on the pack n play works all night long (except for sometimes the first time of the night we lay her down).  But that's also right after I feed her & she's in sort of a milk coma
  • We've been doing this the last couple of weeks and she's done pretty well with it.  I rock her for a few minutes until I see her start to get really drowsy.  Then I lay her down, turn out the lights, and turn on the projector to her baby crack machine.  When I lay her down, sometimes she looks around to see where she's at, squirms a little, then dozes off.  Other times she wakes totally up- the last 2 nights she's done this, but she just lays there and looks at the projector and talks to herself until she falls asleep (usually 15-20 mins.)

Ditto this, and he just started letting me do it. Before this he would scream himself asleep no matter what. It's been so nice to see him drifting peacefully off :)

  • two weeks.

We have a routine where I change, swaddle, nurse, and put to bed.  But all kids are different.

  • We've been doing this with DS for the past 2 weeks.  He does well with it - he either passes out immediately, or while lay there and kick and make noises by himself until he falls asleep.  Rarely does he cry.  He's also still waking up every 2 hours to eat, so I guess it's a draw though.
  • I've been doing this for about a 6 weeks now and it works great for naps.  I just swaddle him and hold him up on my shoulder for about 5 minutes or until he is relaxed (not squirming or fussing).  Then I lay him down and he is out in 5-10 minutes.  Bedtime is a completely different story though.  Still working on that...
  • We've been doing this probably for the last month now.  Works so good for us.  He might fuss for a minute or two but then he;s out.  I'll go in and pick him up after about 5min then put him back down.
  • It has just started to work and DD is 4.5 months.. I was such a struggle, sometimes taking 2-3 hours for her to finally go to sleep after picking her up and putting her down 50 billion times.

Trust me, it gets better. One day they will just be ready for it. Keep it up, he will get there. GL!
