Anyone DC have food allergies?

I think my daughter has an allergy to eggs and maybe wheat?

I'm cutting out all eggs, and am going to try to cut out all products with eggs in them.

She has eczema pretty bad, including around her vagina and she is constantly trying to scratch at it.

Any other suggestions you may have?

Re: Anyone DC have food allergies?

  • This is obvious, but have you seen a pediatric allergist and/or dermatologist? They can tell you exactly what the allergy is and the best way to treat it. The eczema might be totally unrelated.

  • She has seen an allergist and was tested.  He said she has a slight allergy to egg but he wasn't too concerned.  He told me to start out with egg yolk and then eventually to egg white.  He said it was sooo minimal, that he didn't think she would be affected by it.

So we followed his direction, but she still has eczema pretty bad.

She was never tested for the wheat.

  • Since you already know that she is allergic to eggs, I would take her to a pediatric dermatologist to see if the eczema is related to that allergy. In the meantime, you could try using a green tea lotion, since green tea is hypoallergenic and has antihistamine properties.

I hope she feels better soon!

  • Poor babe!!  DD also has an egg allergy, but we have not introduced it yet.  We are going to go back to the allergist to get re-tested before we try eggs.

I agree with the PP suggesting you take her to a dermatologist.  DH's mother 'assumed' he had a milk allergy growing up, and he didn't.  I think I would really want to get to the root of the problem.

  • DS is allergic to eggs and I think maybe wheat too but we have not eliminated it entirely yet. He has eczema on his upper back. Fortunately that's the only place, but it gets bad and I feel so terrible for him. Two different pedis have told us they think he'll just outgrow it and that eczema is not related to food allergies but I personally think it is, and that if we can figure out what it is that's the best way to go.

In the meantime, wash all her clothes in a Free and Clear detergent with no dyes/perfumes, bathe her for a short period of time only with no soap (just wash her hair every few days unless it gets really dirty), keep her dressed lightly so she doesn't get hot, and get Earth's Best Calendula lotion. It's made from natural stuff and it is very soothing for my DS, so I highly recommend it. We have tried other brands and nothing worked. I also do not recommend vaseline. One pedi told us to try that. It made it worse.

One more thought, are you using plastic or cloth diapers? You might try using all cotton cloth diapers and see if that helps the eczema around her vagina. Poor bb girl.

BTW, mommies usually do know best so don't be discouraged if you don't get an answer fast from the docs. Keep trying. I know we havent' given up! Also if you are like me, I am trying to not have to go to the allergist. I just don't want to subject DS to that if I don't have to. GL and hope this helps!

  • My DD has an egg allergy.  We had her tested to confirm that was the case also.  It is a good idea since DD can't have a flu vacinne because of the egg.

It is a bit odd that they would want you feeding pure egg to a baby with an allergy.
