We are going to the Keys in 2 weeks with a 15 month old. For the flight, do we need to buy water/juice after going through security? We plan to take a portable DVD player with his favorite DVD and new surprise toy to open during the flight. Any other suggestions for the flight or hotel stay? I'm nervous!
My 2 boys!!!

Re: Traveling with a toddler
Yes I recommend bringing your own water. Any good flight attendant will refuse to serve your child water from the plane, even ice cubes, because there are soo many parasites in it. It's worth spending the money on bottled juice or water.
Just make sure to bring a new toy, the dvd is a great idea...you'll do great
If you bring water or juice for your child have it in the sippy cup already. ?Otherwise you'll have to buy water after you go through security. ?
I would also recommend taking along some snacks in case you're delayed. ?And maybe a favorite blanket or toy - whatever makes him comfortable and maybe he'll even take a cat nap for you on the plane! You never know, sometimes the white noise knocks them out. ??
You can bring juice or water if it is for the toddler. But it needs to be obvious that it is for them. (They won't let you bring a big water bottle through and just say 'oh it's for the baby') The last two times we have flown, they have tested the liquid in the sippy cup. It doesn't take them long, but it is a pain to have another thing to deal with while trying to juggle through the security lines. To make things easy, I just bring an empty sippy cup and buy a huge bottle of water for us to share after we get through security.
Other tips: Bring favorite snack and new toys are great but bring at least one favorite standby. When we can choose our seats we pick a row of three and book the window and aisle, we've never had anyone book the middle between us, but if they did we would just offer the aisle or window. We have flown with DS 8 times in 15 months and this has worked on 6 of the trips! It is nice to have to extra space, even though we've flown as a lap child.
dvd player and lots of movies are a must. Snacks are a must. favorite and new book , some new toy andsome favorite small toys.
Extra binkies if dc uses any, our ds does when he naps and sleeps, and his blankie ( take an extra one just in case)
If he is out of control we will give him especially in a situation like yours where you want dc to be as calm and well bahaved as possible we give a new treat/snack.
What works for ds is adding nestle chocolate powder to his milk, he lovessssss it and usually soothes him and calms him down.
NOt sure if an airplane you can take any chocolate powder in a ziplock bag or what since the rules are always changing.
But so far you got a good list
I've flow (at times by myself) with DS a number of times.
You can bring liquids for the baby -- the official rule is juice/milk/formula. I have brought juice and milk in a sippy cup through, but never tried water. The amount of screening varies by airport. In DC, they let me keep everything in my diaper bag; in NH, they made me pull it out. I would keep it in a smaller bag in your bigger bag so that you can get it out easily, if you need to.
I also attach toys to the handle of my bag with link-a-dos for easy access.
Non-messy snacks (or as non messay as possible) are the key -- yogurt bites have worked well for us.
The worst time for us is actually the time between boarding and take off. So, if you can, I would actually wait to board at the end rather than pre-boarding. DS is fine once the plane started moving.
Where exactly are you going? I'd like to go to Key West with my daughter next year. I'll be interested to hear how your trips go, if you find lots of kid stuff to do etc.
