Carseat cover necessary?

I registered for the JJ Cole Bundle Me,

https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266848&isTopSellingItem=true ,

but returned it b/c it wasn't what I thought it would be.  I thought it went only on the outside of the seat.

I was thinking of just getting one that covers the outside of the seat, but now I'm not sure one is necessary at all.

Do you use one?

Re: Carseat cover necessary?

  • probably depends on your weather, but as it's so cold here it's been essential. ?Not only for keeping her warm, but also because the blanket part is a little bit longer, i can flip it up to keep her dry when it's snowing outside and i'm rushing from the car to inside. ?I highly recommend it!

  • I see you live in St. Louis and it will probably be cold when your baby is born, so you might use it.  I've used mine like once cause DD gets mad if she can't see out the carseat in the car.  I think a blanket works just fine!

And, I didn't get the JJ Cole one we got a cover from Wal-mart that;s really easy to get on and off and doesn't interfere with carseat straps.

  • I use the Bundle Me and love it.  But it was 9 degrees here this morning, so that may be different from your weather.  The Bundle Me is the only way I can keep her covered and warm without worrying that she'll kick off the covering or wrap it around her face while we're driving, and you can't get the straps on the car seat tight enough to be safe when they wear a coat.

  • I stopped using my Bundle Me once it was pointed out on this board that it's unsafe (interferes with straps of car seat since it goes under the baby).  I just use a fleece blanket (2 if it's a below zero day).
  • I use and love the kiddopotamus one that fits over carseat like a shower cap - I'm in PA so definitely have needed it this winter (and will continue to for the next couple of months!)
    Wheee!

That's part of the reason I took it back.  The carseat inspector says it can make the seat less effective.

We also use this and love it!!

  • I have one that goes around the carseat (like a shower cap...not the JJ) and I think that might be the reason that DD hates her carseat. I can't think of any other reason. Probably because she can't see around her only straight ahead. It is really cold here in MN, but I am going to try a blanket instead. She is only outside from my garage door to the car and then into wherever we are going, not long enough to get really cold.

  • I'm in Missouri as well and my DD was born the day after your EDD.  I did not use one for her, since it was almost March and the brutal cold was almost over.  I would just cover the seat with a blanket when we were outside.  However, I did buy one for DS who was born in November and it has been wonderful!
