Is it a bad idea to cut my hair short while pregnant?

Between the hormones and weight gain, me thinks this isn't the wisest decision, but I was looking at some pictures from over the summer and it looked really cute short. ?I was also tan and in pretty good shape though.

  • Well, I'm a bad one to ask ::points to siggy::  I just chopped mine off!

  • I've been contemplating the same thing - it needs to be trimmed either way, I'm just not sure how much I want to take off.

  • It's a pretty common move, thats for sure. I've been wanting to do it too.

  • Thanks war_eagle.  I was nervous about cutting it for the same reasons you listed...but I didn't gain weight in my face and I was SO sick of the mid-length do I had.  So, I did it.  My hairdresser loves me because she gets to try new cuts every couple of months!

    How short are you thinking?

  • I am a bad person to ask.  I've had Victoria Beckham/Agyness Deyn length hair since I was 15.

I'm the same way. ?I'm always asking for something new. ?I was thinking about your length or maybe just a little bit shorter.?

  • Here is the pic I gave my hairdresser...just in case you need it!

  • Well, how are you with hairstyle attachment?  I don't do well with it, so for me it would be a bad idea to try to adjust to a new length (which I may not like) while also adjusting to physical/hormonal changes of pregnancy.  I also have a round pumpkin head and the first place I gain weight is in my face, so I will have to keep my hair long when I'm pregnant! lol   That said, a lower maintenance 'do would probably be a blessing!

  • keep it long for now. You don't want to turn into "The Mommy" overnight with your sensible haircut, hiked up maternity jeans and the extra weight. Just get a trim and ask your stylist how to switch up your look to keep it fresh and interesting.

My hair is never long. ?I look like crap with it long. ?It is kind of mid-length and probably much more mommyish now than if I got a shorter, sassier cut.?

  • Same here war.  Plus, I definitely wouldn't consider this cut a "mom cut"...not even in the least.
  • Here's my two cents -?

Don't get a haircut that's going to need any assistance with styling tools or any time to make it look right, because you won't really have any.

I've never understood why women cut their hair short when they get pregnant or are about to have a baby - to me, ?being able to pull it back in a ponytail would be ideal!

For instance, I have bangs, that require flat-ironing EVERY DAY, and if I don't, it's suddenly 1987 in the hair region. I plan on growing them out if/when I get knocked up. :)?

I understand the whole ponytail thing, but I can't even get mine that long! ?Once it starts getting on my neck, it gets on my nerves.?

  • Wash and wear is WAY easier. You don't have it falling in your face, etc. Here's mine:

  • Get it cut short if you don't like it it will grow back.  My hair grows super fast when I am knocked up.  I donated 14 inches while 4 months pg with DD and donated another 16 inches when she was 4 months old.
  • Cute Izzy! ?Good point Pokey.

This are my thoughts exactly.  The year prior to get KTFU I had a short, sassy bob, chin length in the front, much shorter in the back and I LOVED it.  However, it required soooo much maintenance.  I had to get it cut every 5-6 weeks to keep the style, then blow-dry with a round brush and touch up with a flat-iron in spots.  And I was never able to roll out of bed in the morning and have it look anywhere near decent, I had to shower and style it every morning.  Thus as soon as I got my BFP I started the grow-out process.  I now have  hair that sits right on top of my shoulders with it still slightly shorter in the back, I still need to blow dry it and flat-iron if we are going out and I want it to look cute.  But the best part is (and I know for me it will be a lifesaver with a newborn) is that I can throw it up in a pony-tail in the am  and not worry about it all day if I don't want to.

  • Unless you know you look good in a short haircut, pg is not the time to try it. If you don't like it, you will hate yourself and cry and stuff.
