3rd tri lurker chiming in here... I'm a photographer and have used this lens (I actually have the 1.4 version). You will LOVE this lens, it's beautiful. If you can spring for the 1.4, it's worth it - but the 1.8 is still good.
I'll PIP a couple pictures I took of my nephew with the 1.4.
I don't have any of my babies with that lens (switched to the 1.4 long before I had them) but I do have some of other things... I used to love that lens!! My only complaint is the somewhat loud focus on it.. but it's quite sharp!

I have the f/1.4...
The first one was taken at night with dim lighting (no flash)...this would have been impossible with the stock lens
